Well, I guess I should be flattered, cept that I'm being called a liar. Why is it so hard to believe that someone can do a simple trill (which I learned as a classical guitarist at university) without autotune? I'm a guitar player first and singer second. Any singer in the music industry who can't sing at least the majority of their notes in tune has no business in calling themselves a pro IMO.

The section that I looped still sounds very unnatural and strange to me but if the man says he didn't tune and pm's me saying the same then I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt. Sorry PEImatrix I definitely didn't mean to imply that you are a liar, like I said I'll take your word for it. I would however look into your AD/DA converter or the mp3 conversion you used. Something sounds really strange to me but maybe it's just me.

I also want to say that it is cool that you put a clip up for people to hear. I know a lot of people are interested in this combo. Take care and happy recording.

Exactly. It always sounds like this. I don't even need to play with compression that much to get it right, the sound is very controlled due to the fact the mic is dynamic and needs more air/pressure for the capsule to capture all the transients, and it will never capture them as fast as a condenser at any point of given time.

It's a nature of the mic, and it's a blessing for most part.

just so you guys may have a basis of comparison, i recorded these tracks a little before christmas and had originally sent them to Lifted for an idea of the chameleon labs preamps. since this is a thread about the sm7b into the GAP, and the CL and GAP are supposed to have the same preamp section; this should be somewhat relevant.

the clips are:
ma200 ran into a CL 7622 into a toft atc-2 with slight compression for peak control and a 50hz low cut.
sm7b ran into a CL 7622 into a toft atc-2 with slight compression for peak control and a 50hz low cut.
v69me with 12at7 ran into a CL 7602 with eq on for 50hz low cut into a dbx 166 for slight compression/peak control.

the processed ma200 track was the selected track with eq from the 7602 and compression from the toft. track slammed more and output increased for the song.
all processing done OTB.
all clips are the same take. mics setup side by side on a stereo bar behind a metal pop filter. all capsules were phase aligned and sm7b was without windscreen and switches were flat. looking at the mics: v69L, sm7bC, ma200R. vocal booth is very treated, mogami cables into the snake. firestudio 2626 is the converter.

Download CL sample tracks.zip from Sendspace.com - send big files the easy way

PEI - Any chance you can re-up the tracks. I'm very interested in hearing the GAP w/ the SM7b.

and for all you negative people... STOP HATING. PEI went out of is way to help out this community. He has no reason to lie about compression or EQ or Auto-Tune. C'mon SON! tutt

Sorry, but I'm in no hurry to post audio on this site at this time. I must say this site has helped me alot in the last year or so. Here are the most important lessons I've learned...

Don't record in a bad room.
Condensors aren't better than dynamics.
Get it right at the source.
Stop recording crappy musicians and/or bad gear.
Always check the phase of your drum mics before you start messin the EQ and other effects.
It's sometimes better to rent a piece of gear than to buy it.

Have a good one.
