for my 4047. I took all of your advice and ordered a 4047 now i need a pre amp in my price range that can get the job done with good sound. i dont know if the preamp in my 1820m(emu) dock is good enough. can some one help me with this?

You'll hear alot of votes for the RNP - (which is a very nice pre) - my personal fave in this price band in the DAV BG1. Give 'em both a listen... |

Reggie Love has nailed it. Own both and have great results with them.

Try Summit 2BA-221, it's a valve/solid state pre but it sounds great for that price!! Luca |

I've heard nothing but good things about the RNP, as I was considering buying one myself. Good thing I live in the town where they're made. Does anyone here live in Austin and know if they give tours of the factory or let you listen to one before you buy it? So yeah, that could be cool. |

The E-MU preamps are dry. Some consider that recording dry is the best signal. Grace 101 - if you want cold Groove Tubes The Brick - Warm Safesound P1 Mindenvoice MKII |

| FMR RNP Grace 101 Hamptone HJFP2 Presonus Eureka Safe Sound P1 My first choice would be the Hamptone. So, if you got good soldering skills or if you got someone who can build for you, then you can get a fairly nice mic pre close to your budget. I've got the AT4047. Congrats. It's a good mic. |

I'd buy the MAudio DMP3 (again) before I went with the RNP. It was just too scooped in the mids for my taste. It was nice enough, but at 3 times the price of the Maudio...just not much better. I think the ProChannel and Tampa deserve shouts out...I've not used them, but I've heard really good sounding tracks done with both. |
