My Band ZYTHUM (1982-1984)

I thought I would share my old band's MY SPACE page with you guys!

Here is a little about ZYTHUM:

JT Milhorat - Composer/Guitar/Vocals (17)
John Savone - Bass/Composer (16)
"Uncle" Bob Milhorat - Drums (13)

RECORDED ON CHEAP BOOM BOXES WITH BUILT IN CONDENSOR MICS. CASSETTE TAPES (OVIOUSLY.)

From Scarsdale NY two high school boys and one junior high thirteen year old formed an all original band named ZYTHUM in October 1982 and broke up 19 months later in June of 1984.

RUSH was a huge influence in the MODEL of a trio for ZYTHUM, but we did not copy RUSH as far as material of ideas are concerned.

Songs to check out and notes on MY Space songs:

"Precious"
by the Pretenders - Rec October 1982. This is our very first rehearsal with "Uncle" Bob, as we were looking for someone more our age, but he passed the audition!! Not bad for 13 huh?

"Apart From The Start" - Rec November 1982. This is the earliest example of a brand new original song. Very rough, but it moves along and picks up at the end. That is the amazing DOD 460 Mini chorus that I am using on guitar (borrowed from Savone.)

"Plastic Dreams"
- November 1982. Debut recording. The sound of the band is already gelling and Bob's maturity as a ZYTHUM drummer is evident here.

"I Hate Ben" - Live at Scarsdale High School - May 20th 1983. Our PUNK original that I wrote back in my Washington D.C. days (1981.) This one shows are raw energy and performance abilities. I destrot a mock guitar on this song, listen close and you can hear the guitar hitting the stage floor! Lots of fun...LOL!

"Simplicity" - Rec 1983. This is one of our concept pieces and again has a heavy RUSH influence.

"The Mammoth" - Recorded COMPLETELY IN THE DARK with no light what so ever - mid afternoon August 1983. This is our crown jewel recording! Not only was it recorded in the dark, but it was totally improvised with a discussion before hand. Savone and I agreed to assume the guitar and bass as two male Mammoths that eventually engage in a battle to the death. Only the a small "BASS LICK" was pre arranged, all other sounds and performances on this song were IMPROVISED! Again the drummer is 14 here!

"The Never Ending Battle" - Rec 1983. Another cool instrumental that became a favorite of friends and the band.

"Shadows Of Fear" - Rec May 1984. One of our last recordings as a band and perhaps the most RUSH like of all our Compositions. The cassette tape was badly damaged on this one.

"Moments Of Magic" - Rec 1984. This would of opened one of our records had we gone on as a group!

"State Of Being" - June 1984. Quite simply ZYTHUM's last recording. This was a brand new song with no lyrics yet, but I improvised them anyway.

"Precious" is our earliest recording and "State Of Being" is our final recording. 19 months. 40 original Composition and it was done. I never played this material again. Now I am considering getting back with my brother to re record the ZYTHUM music in my studio (Zythum Studios...now you know where the name came from.)

We had a big fan base in the local area at the time. We had each of us our own "Roddy" and we had a "Road Crew!" That was a classic time and really great memories! FUN OLD DAYS GONE BY!

"In the ending result, it is really all about the Guitar Solo!"
