the steinberg is a class act, i never really liked the echo audiofire 12 sound so i sold it, the D/A conversion was good but the A/d was a different story very mid to high frequency range conversion it lacks bottom and depth kinda flat sounding compared to the mr816,x and at 599 for 100 dollars more you get digital outs
Dsp efx two headphone jacks and cubase and nuendo features its a no brainer, but this is only my opinion, i already had one thread closed so please no static lets keep it friendly.

from my understanding mk2 version audiofire 8 can, not the mk1 which has no adat but i would never run an echo threw a digi 002 as there would be no upgrade in the pre amp quality

FYI- this is going through Adam A7's with sub.
man you are brave for that move just listen to the tracks that you recorded threw both units and compare them, not a track recorded trew the arurora played back on the audiofire 12, this way you would a difference right away.

Can't answer about 2 of them but I can tell you my move to 1 of them was painless and I couldn't be happier.

that's really funny... when I sold my Aardvark Q10, it was to move to Audiofires.

I didn't have a lot of sound quality complaints with the Q10, and neither do I with the Audiofires, but the advance in stability and user friendliness was just ridiculous.

I used to get all kinds of crashes, bugs, and required workarounds with the Aardvark unit. Now I've got 3 Audiofires (two 12s and one 8) running at the same time with hardly ever as much as a hiccup. I plan to add one more before I'm done.

I wish I could offer a comparison to some of the high dollar converters out there, but i can't (hopefully some day), all I can say is they're super easy to work with, the metering is very handy, and they've never gotten in the way of making great sounding recordings. I think they sound really nice, but I've never had the pleasure of a converter shootout. I don't know if I can really hear conversion quality as a separate characteristic from everything else, but I get the impression they are in the neutral camp, which is probably a good thing for a converter to be.

Echo customer service is great, too.

If ya give a rats ass, these are the results I get out of a Echo Audio Layla 3G along with an ISA 428.

Dry County | Brantford, ON, CA | Country / Rock | Music, Lyrics, Songs, and Videos | ReverbNation

It's not the card that'll get you your sound. It's the operator and the engineering put into sounds off the get go. I've heard A LOT of higher end gear yeilding worse results than you'll get out of an Audio Fire 12.

I will also testify that Echo gear is ROCK SOLID. ZERO latency (unless you use Pro Tools 9, but just mute the actual Pro Tools channel and route an output into a small mixer and you're fine.

Is anyone using Echo audiofire 12 's with Pro Tools 9? If so please give details. I have 3 Presonus FP10's that was working great with Sonar 7 but will not work at all with Pro Tools 9 due to the audio buffer settings on the FP10 drivers. Tried Asio4all but just crashes PT 9 with Presonus FP10. So.... looking to buy a couple of interfaces to get 24 inputs and the Echo is a choice. Help me decide what interfaces I should get. Thanks.

I'm using two Audiofire 12's with protools 9 and no issues. Just setup i/o in protools and there you go! I've got to say, i'm impressed with these as well. You can't go wrong for the price at all. I've been use to digi 192's, and apogee converters for years and the Echo's are on-par with them in quality and conversion to my ears for at least D/A, ( I mostly mix projects--not record). My guess is that the A/D is just as good, I wouldn't expect it to be any worse. Echo products are very quickly gaining a huge reputation for the quality of comparison to these more expensive units, and in my opinion, rightfully so.

Did you have to mess with the Playback Engine all that much? I've been changing settings in there for what seems like days now trying to get rid of the pops and static. It worked GREAT with SONAR but had to switch to PT9 due to some new projects around scoring to film.
