i've heard excellent recordings made with less. so i'd say the answer is yes. you might consider adding a better preamp for your vocals. the GT Brick or an RNP would do the job. the RNP might give you more bang for buck though as its a 2 channel pre. also i'm an ex-RNC owner and a current RNLA owner. its a little more gooey, great for the extra few bucks. i'll probably get a 2nd RNLA soon. just my $0.02 good luck!

Might want to get an outboard F/x unit or some dynamics, but looks like decent place to start.

Or are you at the very beginning? Either way you have decide how much you can spend on that (important) piece of equipment. Also you have to find out if you wanna go for some active monitors or (in case you have a poweramp) if you better choose some passive ones. | |

yeah that'll be fine. I know people who've made good sounding stuff on their (cheap ) stereo speakers, but decent monitors would definitely help, I'd put them before the outboard compressor.. [edit] "before" in order of purchasing not signal flow! narco

peyton.... my suggestions.... 1. mics....ive always been a fan of beyer and electrovoice RE series mics. a sennheiser 421 doesnt hurt either. for a cheap condensor to muck around with look at the mca sp1 for 40 bucks. 2. for a nice mic pre the audioupgrades.com mic pre l;ooks pretty impressive spec wise and clean...for little money.....but youll have to do a little diy work. 3. for monitors i always recommend people look at the yorkvilles for value for money....plus get a small car speaker for mono mix checking. 4. for multitrack software....i recomend powertracks that i use...from pgmusic.com. youll save a bunch of money you can put towards where it really counts ie...mic/micpre/soundcard convertor signal chain/room conditioning. just be open minded , talk to other powertracks users on the forum at pg... and they will tell you its fantastic.....with a huge number of multitrack features space limits me describing including built in fx thus saving you buying plug ins. another plus is no dongle to worry about. just try the demo. it also runs smooth and never crashes.......not once on me. day to day stability is very important to me. when you try the demo in audio preferences set your drivers for wdm. tell me how you get on....peace. ps....it also has a host of midi features built in and softsynth capability you might want to explore.
