VST Plugins and modifying them

I am using Guitar Rig 4 Pro and Addictive Drums. Are sounds from these types of plugins designed to be more of a "final sound" and most of you modify the sound within the plugin. Or do you find yourself using them and then reEqing them or applying other stuff to them outside of their box? Just wondering how most of you approach their use.

The reason I ask is I used both ina song and it sounded pretty good. I added a quick "mastering template" for EQ and compression on the output track when mixing it down, just to give it a little punch. But it really modified the sound helping it some areas, not in others. Just go me wondering if during thing like mix down if these types of plugins are usually left out of the buss that you may be applying other types of processing etc.

Hopefully this make enough sense to get some kind of answer. I just started using them...

Mod them? Upgrade the op-amps and the transformer.

With Addictive Drums, you have 2 choices. Within AD, there is lots of tweaking that can be done from EQ, compression and verbs.

My preference is to send evry AD channel to a seperate DAW channel. From there, you can treat it like a real kit and mix to your heart's content with your preferred plugs.

Hmm, gotta try that out sometime, didn't know you could. Those addictive drum faders are a bit tiny and I prefer some 100mm faders for blindly mixing and automating. thanks for the tip.
