Same price: buy Genelec 8020 or KRK VXT4?

Has someone directly compared these two monitors?

I have a small project room, so I'm not really worried about the bass extension. I did notice the Genelecs are rear-ported, so that might be a problem (they will be positioned against a wall).

I will do composing/mixing on these, all ITB with some vocals - no real bands/instruments. Pop/rock/musical/orchestral style pieces.

Thanks for any advice!

Hi,

"Rear-porting" doesn't cause any problems as long as there is sufficient room for the port to breath. If you have heard/read otherwise, it's not true. For the 8020, around 2" is enough. Of course you will have some bass boost (no matter where the port(s) is/are) should you opt to put your speakers near to a hard surface, so if you can avoid that, any speaker will sound better. If the speaker has good room eq controls (like in 8020), one can also use them to equalise the frequency response flatter.

Which monitors are less flattering?

Could someone comment on this? Which monitors are more realistic/less "beautiful"? Which monitors give you better distinction between bad and good mix? I am considering KRK VXT4's with a sub for 5.1 system...
