Hey! I'm new! Need help a dilema with a soundcard and choosing my first mic. I'm just starting this whole music deal beause I've wanted to have a piece in music my whole life (I'm 19 if that matters) and I finally want to get more serious about it. I recently bought a yamaha mx 12/4 which after looking at reviews, is a decent mixer. I currently have a stock soundcard which I know is horrible and can't do much with it. So I'm in the search for a soundcard. I was wondering since I have a good mixer do I really have to pay a couple hundred dollars for a soundcard or can I get a cheaper (but not too cheap) soundcard? And can anyone recommend me a soundcard. I'm also going to get my first mic and I've came to the conclusion of Shure sm57 or MXL V67g. (let me know if you would recommend me something better for a first mic.) Thanks in advance Mods, if this isn't the appropriate spot for this thread feel free to move it. Sorry.

I would definitely recommend an sm57 between those two mics. Its reasonably versatile, and pretty unbreakable. And easy to fix if you do manage to break it. With only one mic, this is an important consideration. As far as the soudcard, the stock card in your computer can be used, but it will in no way sound professional. I don't know how many tracks you're planning to record at one time, or how many outs you need, but there are a couple of 2 channel usb boxes that will definitely sound better than the stock card in your computer. Just check out usb interfaces on sweetwater.com or a comparable site, and pick up a box with a couple channels. It will definitely be better than your stock card.

So something like the behringer uca202? Just throwing that name out there because I was a YouTube review on it and it was cheap and seemed to have what I needed. I'm trying to get as close as a professional sound as a can. So Im not looking to keep the stock soundcard.
