Home mastering setup..

greatings!!

first post here, yet i have been browsing this forum for along time now!!! thumbsup
turned out realy usefull!!

but anyway, i have a nice computer/monitors and an EMU 1212m (and some load of outboard stuff obviously..) right know and i record my drums in another studio and do the rest of the work at my "studio" at home..

and lately i've been thinking of turning my mastering a little more Analog, since i do it with plug ins right know and i'm not tottaly satisfied with the results right know ( i know this also do to myself but i also want a more hands on aproach).

so i was thinking of setting a bit of a low budget mastering chain, i was thinking of the following:

Behringer (i said the B word.. shame on me!!) Tube composer (not that i will be using the tube much ofcourse hahaha..)

Sonic maximizer (i got a stereo version the 362)

EQ - Haven't decided on anything yet.. suggestions?

Behringer Edison ( i'll probly use it as much as the sonic M. but its handy having around..)

That's it!! any suggestions? (apart from get your mixes mastered at a prof facility?)

THANKS!! jb.

Stick with plugs?

Really - If you're going to go with an analog chain (which, IMO, is an admirable thing) get gear that's worth using. Composers and Sonic Maximizers?!?

Sonic Maximizers?!?

I'd invest in a UAD setup and tweak with that for a while.

IMHO, YMMV, yada, yada, etc., etc.

Leave mastering to someone else on that budget...
Skip the low end analog gear anyway. Some plugs can do the trick for a quick job if you really want to.

Behringer may not be the obvious choice for mastering...on the other hand, one of the world's best (Herb Powers) is known to have some B in his rack.......what I'm more worried about is your monitoring / room - (beacuse you didn't mention it! )

i thought this would happen ee..

but check these results:

a whole master through a composer&Edison: http://members.home.nl/katafalk/Katafalk%20-%20Death's%20Contradiction.mp3

nother one: http://www.grinroth.nl/mp3/Grinroth-forsaken.mp3

and this a sonic maximizer on guitartracks:

http://tesseractband.co.uk/sounds.php

and i know that mentioning words like "sonic maximizer" and "behringer" in a place were its normal for one too have a distressor and Neve EQ's kinda makes it hard for some of you guys too take this seriously but i'm just on a budget and i just wanna see how i can get good results out of cheap gear (which i'm kinda bound to at the moment).

and now: whatabout the DBX quantum? is that anygood? i heard some pretty good results with that aswell.
