Thread Starter | Inexpensive Monitors for Home use So, I'm a bassist, looking to use a small mixer and some cheap active monitors to practice with backing tracks. These will also be used as general computer speakers, and for some light tracking with Pro-tools LE. From CL: Yamaha HS50m - $250 http://sfbay.***************/sby/msg/1456299201.html KRK RP5 Rockit - $200 obo (just dropped price from $250) http://sfbay.***************/eby/msg/1455062808.html Alesis M1 620 - $100 (closest to me) http://sfbay.***************/sfc/msg/1451534843.html M Audio BX5a - Several pair from $150 to $250 I've read several review for these here, as well as some comparisons, but from the consensus it seems that they all have their pros and cons. Any opinions? Thanks. |

| KRK RP 8 is actually the most "honest" of low priced monitors I have heard. You can check the prices on KRK from zZounds.com Sometimes they have very nice deals Cheerz!!

| I'm not sure why nobody mentions the mackie mr5 speakers. not just this thread but almost any I have seen.. They are just as good as any in the price range. Anywho.. I would recommend the HS50 and MR5. |

In my search for monitors, I tried out the KRK RP5s, and didnt care for them. There was just a lack of clarity that the MR5s had. Mackie MR5s all the way. | |

| For practicing & general listening, the KRKs > the Yamahas IMO. The Yamahas are great for mixing on, but the KRKs are more pleasing to listen to, and have a BIIG low end for such a small monitor. |

Thread Starter | Great, Thanks for your responses. I left the Mackies out because I just did a quick sweep of the local CL to see what was cheap. I'll keep an eye out for them from now on. |
