ok i have a chance of getting a gap-73/rnc combo or safe sound p1 or the
ssl alpha channel. Which one would you all go with?

i have to make my choice asap

rnc is good.

but i think id do the SSL

Really depends on what you need to do. If all you need to do is capture 1 track well go with the SSL. However if you are going to be doing any mixing, the RNC could really help for 2-bus compression or drum group or whatever. OTB compression is pretty badass - adds something to an otherwise ITB mix.

Additionally you could use the SSL EQ during mixdown - I would prefer the stereo compressor though. The PRE73 gets some awesome reviews around here too.
