Thread Starter | Dynamic mic suggestions for guitar cab.
I have an SM57. I also have an AT4050 condenser en route, but I am looking for another dynamic mic to complement the SM57. I feel that on some of my amps, the SM57 is too dark (though it may be my M-Audio Omni Studio which is going to be yanked very shortly). I know that I really don't like the Senn e609. It was too harsh and bright to my ears. Suggestions I have been given are: ATM29HE (~$100) Audix i5 (~$100) Senn MD421 (a bit pricey @ $350, but not out of the realm for the right tones) Royer R121 (I would love to, but @$1K, this will be a "down the road" purchase) I would think that $350 would be about the outer limit. The material is Classic/Hard Rock, and Blues. Thanks, B |

ev635a If you don't like the e609s then you might not like the i5...it's even brighter, but more scooped sounding. Try moving the mic away from the center of the cone and reassess your opinion of the e609s. I would not put that mic where I put other mics. Brad |

Been using an R84 with a e609 silver lately. this gives A LOT of flexibility. What about a Beyerdynamic M160? That mic is awesome on cabs and not tooo expensive.

| You can try the E609 and variants too - ame are in the $100 range. Some of the old EV hammers might be nice too. -tINY |

$350 for one dynamic mic is crazy talk...i mean i think i would rather have 5 or 6 totally unique different mics than one RE-20 or SM-7.....but i'm a scuzzbucket...get your mics used...!! ok so last friday i had a wet spot appear when i tossed an AT-pro37r infront of an old Silvertone TwinTwelve $75 for it....it's a condenser.. ..but i don't mindthe UniDyne III is very hip....but it might be a bit dark...$50 Ye' Ole Ev's!!! 660, 664. 664a....got one of each for $50 a piece+ they're CHROME maybe a RE series mic...tho they can be a bit more pricey ...it's hard to get those ****ers placed with a craked out shredder playing "Eruption".....i like to run my SynthFuzzSexBassCasioCZ-1000 into the amp...just a middle "C" or maybe a lower "E" just to get a nice steady tone to work with... then i bust out the freakshow dynamics i've got in the locker.... start waving them around willy nilly....find a juicy spot....throw it on the mic stand so you know where that mic sounds good.....then swap the mic for another chrome dynamic.... stand back and witness your rock power!!!! |

The E/V ND468 is a very tight sounding dynamic, great for squeezing elec gu tracks into a dense mix. Would compliment the 57 well. War |
