"PADS" used in Michael Jackson's-Thriller

The title of this post should say it all.
I love those pads used in the beginning of the Michael Jackson song, "Thriller".

Its about 20 sec into the song where all you hear after the door slamming is the hi-hats and pads.

If someone could tell me where I can find a pad like this, it would be great. Especially in any soft synth programs!

I will have to get out my copy of Thriller but I would guess DX-7 and I would check out the NI FM-7

Back in the 80's I remember reading an article in a keyboard magazine claiming that Michael Jackson and Quincy Jones were big fans of the Roland S-50 sampler and the Roland D-50 FM synth. It wouldn't surprise me if that's what they used on the Thriller album.

Sorry but my above post was incorrect. The Roland D-50 and s-50 were not released until the late 80's. Obviously too late for the thriller album.

I think Anthony Marinelli was the synth programmer for the thriller album, maybe that's a good keyword for some research?

The song was written by Rod Temperton who was the keyboardist and song writer for Heat Wave. He also recorded the keyboard tracks on Thriller. They mentioned in an article that the Roland Jupiter 8 was used alot by Temperton.

Temperton wrote the following for Michael Jackson: "Rock with You", "Off the Wall", "Burn This Disco Out", "Baby Be Mine", "The Lady in My Life", "Thriller", "Someone in the Dark", "Hot Street".

i know what sound you're talking about without even needed to refer to the song

there's many vintage analogue synth and sampler (hardware or software) that will get you very close to what you're looking for

If you look close in the credits for the album, Some of the equipment was listed. Allthough it was a Quincy Jones production, Lots of other musicians were mentioned in the credits too. A golden age for pop music, But yeah check the credits out, If i find my cd over the next few days i will have a look for you.

It probably is the Jupiter 8. They had used a few other Rolands then too (perhaps SH and Juno60). To replace this, try Jupiter 8V by Arturia. You should come close. Hope that helps.
