Charter Oak SA538 - with the right retailer relationship you can bring it in at around 1G!

I hear the soundelux u195 is good, or an older 414 for around 500 and have it modified for about 250. New ones cant be modified. Ive heard the Audio Technica 4047 was pretty good for under 500, similar in character to a U 47 fet, a classic mic.

Peace

Oh my buddy loves his groove tubes gt 66 which i saw on sale at guitar center for 299, but i think they are back up to 499. Hes a highly succesfull producer so i trust his ears

I remember an old post where someone asked for advice on spending $5000 on a vocal mic and George Massenburg suggested they spend $1000 on an AT 4060 and put the rest of their money into a good compressor. Made me laugh at the time, but ya might check one out.

For $1k, you could get a pair of Studio Projects C4s, an AT 4040, and a used RE20.

Putting $1k into a single mic and then expecting it to work well for OH and all vocal work is ludicious.

Peluso 2247, I have a U195 and the Peluso and a U 87. 99.9999% of the time the peluso beats the crap out of the rest
