Smile Looking for new large diaphragm condensor..

I bought a Studio Projects C1 about 7 weeks ago that I don't feel suites my voice well at all. So I'm thinking of selling it and buying a different LDC.. Any suggestions?

The C1 didn't seem to have the silky, but crisp sound I was looking for.. I'm considering maybe getting the Blue Baby Bottle.. but I'm not 100%.

I'd like to hear what you guys think.. If it helps I'll be running it through the Universal Audio 710 Twin-Finity, into a 003 R.

Thanks,
Austin

I've had the C1 but not the Baby Bottle, but based on all the reading up I've done on it, there should be a night and day difference. I find the C1 to have a lot of the same high frequency harshness of the low-cost Chinese mics. Haven't tried the Baby Bottle personally, but from what I've read, as well as reviews on Sound on Sound and other mags, it's well-regarded and ought to be more of what you're looking for.

You might even want to consider a great dynamic, like the Shure SM7b or an Electro-Voice RE20.

Everyone says the same thing about the brightness of the C1.. I didn't think I would mind, but it just didn't fit at all. I already have a MD421 as my nice dynamic, but I don't know if that compares to the others vocally. Blue Baby Bottle seems like a good choice so far though..

a suggestion

I'm not sure, but I heard a real nice recording on the Reaper forum recorded with a MXL V69 Mogami Edition. I looked it up and read some good stuff about it, but can't comment on first hand experience.

MXL V69 Mogami Edition

regards.

The Baby bottle is very nice, much better than C1. Any of the BLUE mics are nice. The bottle rocket might be a better choice because you can get other caps for it. The Dragonfly is an all around killer mic also! I saw WAR has a special on some "B" stock, I would look into those also!

I actually already ordered the bluebird.. a lot of reviews said they prefered the bluebird over the baby bottle. I also like the simplicity of the bluebird. (Not to mention it's SO pretty. haha.)

I had a 20% coupon that only lasted until midnight so I had to make a quick choice. I'll see if I like it. It sounds like it's a great mic!!

Thanks Guys!

You shouldn't be dissapointed with the Bluebird - a few friends have it and it's definitely a killer mic. I've used it a few times with great success.

Cheers!

Gauge ECM 87. Cheap and cheerful, but doesn't suffer from chinese sizzle.
