I like those ST6 a lot. Good tweeter, good design, good price...

Yeah, if I hadn't recently picked up a passive Reveal-6 recently (older black woofer version), and weren't on the hunt for it's partner, I'd pick up a couple of the ST6's to have for additional reference... mighty hard to resist at that price.

I got 'em today! I need to move my room around tommorow to accommodate my new monitors. Next on my to buy/make list is some DIY bass traps, then afterward a new mic/new preamps.

Well mine came today. First grabbed the nearest set of cables, a set of unbalanced rca's - noticible hum, so switched to balanced trs cable and hum gone. After a couple of hours listening to known voice and CDs, I'm impressed by the "largeness of sound" at low listening levels. Tradeoffs of course, like the too phat mid-bass but moving 'em further from the wall should help there. A great blow out price at MF. One could do a lot worse. They make my old (and much better sounding) JBL 4410s look positively outdated.

Yep, they are purty. Here's a shot of mine in their new home, though I have put them on taller stands to get the tweeters up to ear level.

I haven't noticed too much mid-bass, but mine are away from the wall in a pretty well treated space, so perhaps yours will clean up a bit once you soften things up a bit. The upper mids are pretty forward... it really puts the spotlight on things in that range, which is a nice counterpoint to my Blue Sky's, which are very un-hyped. Might mellow out a bit as they break in, however.

Oooops... was in the studio last night, and the tweeter on one of the Rokit 5's cut out. It came back this morning after I thumped it a few times. It would appear I have a loose connection. Grrr.

That was the gambit on the Rockit and some of the V series. The scuttlebutt is that a lot of those tweeters didn't pass QA and had to be scrapped (with worries about escapes).

If you like the sound when it's working, getting another pair isn't a bad idea (now that you can get them cheap).

Well, it came back to life, and has given me no more trouble so far. I ran them for 15 straight hours to help break them in... They seem to have mellowed a wee little bit on the upper mids and high end, too.

Truth to tell, thanks to an unfortunate incident of near-instantanious deceleration involving a '74 Thunderbird, and also years of playing bass with the drummer on my right, my right ear isn't what it used to be... especially on the high end. And it was the right tweeter. But it came back on after I thumped the KRK... not the side of my head.

Thanks to this thread, I'm out $600

I walked into my local GC to audition Rokit 8's, to see if they were head-and-shoulders better than my M-Audio BX8a's (which are waay too bass-heavy for my taste, and not configurable).

I listened to the Rokit 8 vs. the BX8a. Definitely noticed better midrange and less prominent bass in the Rokits. So far so good.

Then I listened to the Yamaha HS80m. To my ears, they have a clarity not matched by the Rokit or BX8a. (I'm sure I would have loved KRK VXT6 or VXT8, but they were out of my price range.)

Anyway...I walked out the door with the Yamahas. So far I've been very pleased.

Anyone want a slightly used pair of BX8a's cheap?

I now know why the KRK's where so cheap! One of mine has a problem where it slowly gets quieter, and I have to keep adjusting the knob on the back to keep it as loud as the right monitor!

Same thing here - went to GC for KRK's last year and came out with Yamahas... the HS50's... 80's are quite a bit deeper, but a bit more expensive... to my ears they shamed everything in the surrounding price point. Hit $1000 you get more options, but around $400 bucks - get the HS50m's. HS80's rock just a little bit more for a little more money.

Okay, My 6 inch woofer just stopped working on my KRKs! Why might this be? I wasn't rockin' it too loud I don't believe. I opened it up and it seems the connections are good. Suggestions?

Since it's less than a month old, can't you return for repair/replacement? Anyway, thats my suggestion.

They don't have anymore limited edition ones. I could return them, but I would have to pay $200 to get the new ones since I got these at a reduced rate. :( However, I called KRK and they are setting me up with an RA# and they are going to repair it for free. It's a pain in the butt, but at least something can be done. The jury is still out on if I made the right choice on getting the limited edition yellow enclosure KRKs.

I've heard good things about KRK's service, so hopefully they'll be quick and you're "Yellow Peril" Monitors will be up and running again soon.

No, they are not quick. Took two weeks to get an email back regarding some issues I was having with my V6IIs. Went to get a cheap replacement pair while waiting to find out what I needed to do with my KRKs and ended up with a pair of Yamaha HS50s - not sure I will fix my V6s now. I like the Yamaha's better than the KRKs and thats saying alot, Ive been a loyal KRK user for 10 years.

Congrats to all who have acquired the KRKs for this ridiculous price, I've been using the Rockit8 for 2 years and they are very workable...

There's some low-Mid confusion there but on a well treated room, they have a real value for the price!
