Thread Starter | MOTU Ultralite mk3 vs M-audio Profire 2626 Any thoughts from people who actually own these units? The mark 3 of the ultralite that is as well. Any other firewire interface suggestions at this price point - running on a new imac and logic. I would go RME Fireface 800 but too expensive. Thanks Rohan |

| A friend of mine is recording 3 three songs to his solo project. And he is using the profire. I have FF400 myself. And based on my friend's comments and the few sessions I have done for him with it. I must say it's one of the best deals in interfaces right now. You get 8 preamps with pads. ADAT. And the drivers seem solid. Both for mac and pc. But in the other hand I have no experience with the Motu. |

| I have the MOTU Ultralite and it runs perfectly with Logic Studio, which is why we bought it. It just never messes up drivers are rock solid. It sounds adequate. A better sounding unit is the Apogee Duet, which is pretty well known on this board to have a very clean mic pre, and for the $$$ best converters around. You however must deal with the break out wiring. You can run a high end pre through it also if you like. We chose the MOTU knowing we were buying it for the driver reliability and the I/O. The MOTU does have the S/PDIF inputs so you can add better converters when you are able, and you can also bypass the pre if you buy a nice one. ![]() Last edited by patfont; 28th July 2009 at 04:06 PM.. Thread Starter | Seems that when the M-audio works it works well. It seems the Motu would be more reliable. What are the convertors like? Duet - although its meant to be nice, not that functional. It does what it does really well. |

Only have the MOTU right now, so can not tell you about the converters, as we have not upgraded yet. But overall it gets the job done. A local musician had his CD mastered by a professional who worked with bands you would know and paid him $$$$$, and he was not happy. Brought it to my son and paid him $ for his work and he left happy! So I think if you know what you are doing it fits the bill. As to upgrading the converters and pre we plan on doing it soon and appreciate the info we get here on GS! ![]() | |

Thread Starter | Focusrite Saffire 40 any good? Focusrite Saffire 40 any good? I'm thinking of going the MOTU path though. Its funny Sound on Sound hasn't really reviewed much MOTU gear - although they have mentioned their reliability. Thanks Rohan |
