MOTU 828mk2 Windows drivers: experiences?

Thinking about picking up one of these. Anyone install one on a Win XP Pro (sp2) system? Stable?

I run one on a non-approved firewire chipset with no major issues.

I used to use a PCI MOTU. If you get it, you may be safest going back to one of the last drivers put out while it was current. They switched to all-in-one unified drivers for a bunch of stuff a while back and the newer ones seemed to be developed mainly for whatever new interfaces they put out. If you have any trouble, get hold of an older batch.

Good Luck

I've run mine under XP SP1 & 2. On my rig, it likes WDM-KS drivers (WDM-KS are kernel streaming drivers, an extension to the WDM driver standard) and gets glitchy at the same buffer settings with ASIO drivers. I use Sonar 6P. But I've talked to at least one other Sonar 6 user who had precisely the opposite experience with regard to ASIO vs WDM-KS drivers.

ASIO-Drivers in Windows were always very stable with mine - no problems here - and I've used four different computers with it.

just a little bitchy sometimes about standard-audio-ouput in windows (for winamp, browser and so on) when I don't power it before the computer, but I guess this is a windows-problem.

in mac os everything workes perfect.

MOTU Firewire PC implementation just sux. I have gone through several units on several different PCs over the years bcuz I wanted them to work, but they just wouldn't. I was a PC tech for years and know my way around a PC.

I did all the extensive and complicated work arounds that tech support suggested - like gathering mushrooms at midnight under a full moon, doing a full reboot, powering on the unit, rubbing dog feces on my left buttock while dancing a little jig on one foot, opening regedit, rubbing my nose three times, going to currentcontrolset, and whcking off to a picture of a unicorn! It never worked.

Dude, I'm totally with you on whacking off to unicorn porn. Who hasn't been there? But opening regedit? You're sick.

I initially had problems. In about 8 hours I had researched it and resolved it on my Windows Dell Laptop. I now use a Macbook Pro with no problem though. The answer was that I had to roll back some driver from service pack 2 to 1 or something. I don't totally remember. But all of the information is out there. I may have even created a thread here or at Studio Central about it.
