Mixing question.... quiet intros....

I hear alot of commercially released songs that start with a single guitar are what not, and the guitar by itself is as loud as the when the whole band kicks in. At this point the guitar drops alot in volume. Is this done during mastering or do you guts automate the faders at the biginning prior to mastering? I am currently mixing and have a few songs that start this way and would like to know If I should leave it for the ME to do his/her magic.

thank
Scott

It's mostly the way things are being mastered these days.

It's a trend / fad that, God willing, will pass in time.

ok, I thought so.. I rather like my intros the way they are.... they build up nicely. They could use a little bump up but not like you hear in today's music. Hopefully the mastering guy won't kill it

What, you guys don't like the reverse dynamics??? (kidding- I kid)

The intro is HUGE, then the whole band kicks in and everything gets small and thin...

Yea, damn. That must have been some "HUGE" accoustic that dude was playing.

It damn near dwarfed the whole band.

I think it is fine. But I'm becoming more and more adamant about dynamics.

For instance, I had the ME defeat all dynamics processing on all the intros (on the last CD I did). I like it to be quiet, and come in HARD and loud...

Call me crazy, but I'm OVER this loudness stuff. I intend to put disclaimers on any and all of my personal releases. I believe we all have to draw the line somewhere to bring about any change...

I think that intro is fine volume wise. I think the stereo effect is a bit much, especially after the band kicks in.
