Presonus problem (problem solved)

Just so everyone here knows, Rick Naqvi of Presonus contacted me shortly after I made this thread and put me at ease about my situation at Presonus. It was (obviously) a big misunderstanding. I want to thank Rick for showing concern, he has definetly changed my view on the company. BTW, I did dig the Eureka's DI and the new ADL 600 looks like an interesting unit.

1.) Their mic pres sound no better than any low-end mic pres, but they charge a decent buck for them.

and

2.)

I sent my Eureka back because of a high noise floor on the digital out, paid $50 at the UPS store (including insurance) and waited well over a month to get it back. I plug it in, and it's doing the same thing.....

I send it back AGAIN because the problem is not fixed and they want me to pay for shipping, again! Finally after about 10 phone calls (it seemed like after a while they were ignoring my calls) I got in touch with whoever was in charge and he finally gave in to pay for the shipping (what a great guy..). They send it back to me again, and it's doing the same effin thing!

Now, I send it to the dealer where I bought it, they figure out the problem right away and send it to Presonus. I'm waiting and waiting for about another month after the dealer shipped it to them and finally contact them. It turns out that:

Presonus LOST my Eureka and never contacted me! So at this point I am months and months without this piece of gear. Anyway, they finally send me a new one which I plan to sell on e-bay asap because it's a POS anyway....

If anyone wants to buy my new one with new digital out card for $500 let me know

They call it the Eureka because after you buy it you say "EUREKA! Maybe buying prosumer crap isn't such a bargain after all!" Live and learn, right?

Sorry to hear about your problem though... Good luck with selling it...

Sorry to hear about your hassles. Why do manufactures do that to people? It's only going to end in less sales for themselves. Surely recitfying the problem post haste, and not bitching about who pays what is going to make them friends (and more money in the long run) rather than trying to dodge any responsiblity.

I was interested if anyone has had a play with (or seen) the Presonus/Anthony De Maria gear yet? There's a dual pre as I recall, and maybe I dreamt it but I think I heard of a comp as well. Anybody?

So what do guys think of the sound/quality of the ACP88 - Eight Channel Compressor

I was also thinking that it would a nice compact unit for mixing live shows as well.

Hi Beatle,

I'm sorry you had problems with your unit, especially with the length of time we had it. I'd like to find out what happened, and most importantly, get you taken care of. Please forward me your contact info. Or if it is more convenient for you, please give me a call at the number below, x114 and I'll be glad to do what I can to help.

Kind Regards,

My first job out of college was selling mid-level hifi gear in an upscale mall west of Boston. It was a Tweeter Etc. shop, back when they only had seven stores. (Okay, now you know how freakin' old I am!) Yamaha, Denon, Bang&Olufsen, Nakamichi, decent stuff but not necessarily anything to write home about. The company provided training, and one of the things that I still remember from that early training was this quote, courtesy of Director of Personnel Paul Schindler: When a potential customer comes in and looks at your lineup of Yamaha, Denon, Bang&Olufsen, Nakamichi, etc and says "yeah, but what do you think of __________" (insert name of some equally middle-of-the-road brand; I dunno, Rotel, Pioneer, Sherwood, Technics...) or better yet, when someone asks

I hope you feel better after talking to Rick Naqvi - you can't get much better than that! Every exchange I have had with Presonuus has been stellar, including the quality and low cost of their gear, from the first phone call I made to them to ask if they really made their stuff in the USA.

I know someone whose Blue Tube preamp had its meter stop working, and they sent a new one gratis... long after warranty.

Let us know what satisfaction Rick might bring you - and if you are too pissed to call, it is your loss.

I LOVE Presonus!

Man! I sure hate to be the only one praising the Eureka and Presonus here but......

I have a Eureka and to be honest, aside from it not being the Neve 1073 I wish I had but can't afford, I'm pretty damned happy with it. For a mid priced pre, I've been quite pleased with it.

The first one I received got damaged in shipping and wouldn't work right out of the box. The dealer I bought it from put me in touch with Presonus, I told them what it was doing, they authorized my dealer to immediately ship me a brand new one, no hassles at all.

So far I am a pleased customer and would buy Presonus stuff again. (Until that damned Neve materializes, anyway!! HA! HA!

i have a firestation, and love it. in fact, when the tube went out last year, they repaired it without even asking warranty information. they paid shipping both ways. when fedex broke it (holes in the box & such) TWICE (i should start a thread about how i hate fedex), presonus took care of it all.

i know a producer in town with several grammys under his belt who loves the MP20s.

no, i don't work for presonus. if i did, i'd probably be making more money than i am now.

I absolutly love Presonus' gear. I have 2 Firepods, 1 MP-20, 1 Eureka, and a comp16. They all perform well above what I expected. I personally know the guys at Presonus and they would do anything to help out a happy, or unhappy customer. I can't wait for the ADL600!!!

Yeah, I own several Presonus pieces. Though not Neves, Great Rivers etc.( as forementioned) they get the job done. Especially if you can't afford the others at the time! I' ve had a couple of problems with the Presonus, but they took care of it without a lot of hassel. YMMV.....

I bought the 8 channel compressor/gate unit many years ago. Built like crap, and the gates would "click" in the audio path everytime they kicked in and out. Useless. On top of that there was shit shaking around inside the box. I opened it up to find loose washers and nuts inside. Needless to say I brought it back to the dealer and have never considered a Presonus product ever since.

Just a suggestion, when dealing with any possible defect you should at least contact the dealer first. It can make things smoother in some cases.

well I've never owned or used a Presonus anything, but that's pretty damn cool right there.

I use a Firepod on 90% of what I do...they are (mine is, anyway) a reliable, good sounding unit, with more than just usable pres, better than you'd expect AD DA, and almost idiot-proof in setup and operation....haven't had any life damaging issues...

I'm not real happy with the limitations of 48K and loss of SPDIF when daisy chaining multiple units, but what the heck...I can live with this until these issues are resolved...

I've yet to use the Central Station, but it does look very appealing....will most likely get hold of one in the not too distant future...many oft-quoted mastering and higher end people report choosing the FP and CS even though they were financialy capable of going a MUCH high road...When upgrade time rolls around, I am still eyeing the RME counterpart simply because of routing options and ADAT interfaces.

As to their customer support: I've had nothing but success with questions, etc...
they seem to be a good bunch of folks with the user's concerns in mind.

No regrets on my decision, no issues....sorry you are having a different experience (no, I'm NOT a compensated endoreser....wishing I was, though...)

I used an ADL 1000 on heavy vox with a handheld SM-57 and I couldn't believe the results. I chose it over an 1176. I found my new secret weapon for heavy vox

Here is why I hate Presonus.

Because I payed 700$ for the firestation and it was a disatser. After 8 months of trying to get that piece of garbage working. They sent me an email apologizing and admiting that it was a disaster but no check in the mail. I cant even sell it on ebay.

Secondly my friend just bought a firepod against my advice and guess what, he plugged it in and it did not work, imagine that. He sent it back and bought the fireface.

I bought a CS a few weeks ago and I really like it but one gripe I have is that the built in talkback mic makes a "pop" everytime it's engaged which is unpleasant to those on the receiving end to say the least. A friend of mine's CS also does this so I guess it's a "feature"...

Presonus is a company that made small improvememnts on Behringer gear and put a bigger price tag on it. Hence their gear is unrelable, shitty sounding, and their customer service is lame because their gear is always breaking.
My favorite is their power supplies that lightly toast themselves after about a year of use.
Poor Brasilian dudes spend a months paycheck on what is advertised as a pro product, and they just end up having an expensive piece of gear that sound the same as their Behringer stuff.

can you tell me what facts you base this on, other than your own dissatisfaction? there's been enough rumor-starting and politics on this board already.

no, i don't work for presonus, or anyone else, for that matter.

Yea, I know how it is in Brasil. However, I have a Eureka and no, it's not a 1073 but if you know how to work with a mic, have good cables, know about compression and EQ, you can get some good sounds from it. I know a few people that use it one of them being someone who works with some very respected musicians because he is a well respected guitar player from a very very well know band world wide. He also has worked on major lable releases as an engineer. No, I am not going to drop a name. But when I saw he had one and he told me about it I thought I would give it a shot. And you know what?? I am not upset that I did.
The gear you have should not make you but the talent you have. Many people say this and that about all this gear yet so many people use it. I have heard so many people trash talk so much gear yet we see it in so many studios.
All I can say is I have been able to get good sounds from the Eureka pre. I don't care much for the DI but I am sure I can always use it for something. Everything is just another tool. Peace.
