which beyers do you have? i got the dt-880 pro i record with my ultrasone hfi 550 though, they're messed up but they're too stupid to fix them (they keep replacing the cable and re-soldering everything instead of replacing the driver)

I use the 770 and the 990. I've wanted to pick up the S-logic Yamahas (they are Ultrasone based probably the same thing) only considerably cheaper

well i think i learned my lesson seems like the only way to go around my problems are treating my room and then worry about a new microphone the sm7b still seams like something i should get because of my loud mouth/screaming tendencies and a million apologies to keithmoonwannabe for the misunderstanding ![]() i hope you understand my situation and the denial i was in ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() btw i love these freaking smilies hahaha |

The thing about a treated space is that it makes *everything* sound better in tracking AND allows you to mix accurately. A $7,500 U47 is going to sound like a $200 microphone in a crappy-sounding room. Frank

Actually, it will sound like a $7500 mic but it won't MATTER if the room sounds bad. The room will screw it up either way. You need both, but a good room comes FIRST for sure. War |

ok, after looking at a few threads on here about bass traps and also some online tutorials i'm still a little confused.. should i build 4 panels and place them on the corners, or build 8 and place 2 on each wall near the corners? or maybe something else? i'm thinking of following this tutorial http://www.basstraps.net/DIY-BASS-TRAPS-MADE-EASY.pdf but i was wondering if i could build 4" borders around the fiber rather than placing them on top the 2" frame. the reason i would like to do that is because the ones on the tutorial would be pretty damn big and might look monstrous in my relatively small room. |

alright guys step one is finished. i moved my whole room around so i could have my desk where it was recommended by weasel9992. woah what a difference. not only my room looks a lot more spacious and organized, it actually feels and looks like a real studio now even though my bed is still in here. i'm sure i'll hear a difference tomorrow when i test out my monitors in this position but i can't wait to hear the different with the bass traps. only problem now is that i got into a huge argument with my mother today because she says we're moving and i won't need the bass traps anymore. i tried explaining to her that they're just going to be hanged on the walls and can be moved anywhere else but i don't think it got through to her very well. ![]() oh and who moved the smileys around?! |

Tell yer mom: Bass traps are like pictures you hang on the wall... but instead of photos* they make things sound good. And they are a one time investment that you can use in as many studios, and as many times as you move in your lifetime. If you ever decide music isn't something you want to do.. put them on ebay or craigslist and recoup some of your money.*Have you seen GIK's 'art panels' ? Tell your mom you want these pretty pictures on your wall!!! GIK Acoustics: GIK ArtPanel |

My first mic was an NT1A. Hated it because I didn't understand what I was dealing with. I wasn't just picking up too much of the room...I was picking up the house, the street, the neighbor's dog sleeping and my folks arguing in the next county over. Got an SM7B now and all is well. I kept the Rode, I may even get another and use them as room mics. But the SM7B has made my life blissful and solved the majority of my project studio mic woes. |
