Thread Starter | Help me acoustically treat my room (for cheap)
Hey, perhaps this is more of a question for the Ethan Winer forum (and yes I plan to post it there as well), but was hoping for some help treating my room..It's pleasant to listen in (little fatigue at high volumes), but a nightmare to mix in, partly owing to the fact that it's untreated, and not enclosed from my much larger loft space/living area. I dont have the funds to build a wall and then do treatment, so my question is based on the pictures below, what's the best way to treat my room (controlling and limiting the reflections going out into the much larger main area, taming bass.) im about to buy some 703 corning to build some traps but suggestions on placement or other methods to help out that dont cost much (my absolute max budget right now is only $400) would be hugely appreciated. Would a heavy curtain seperating the control "room" area from my space help out? i have ideas but would rather leave it open to suggestions from you fine folks. the pictures attached should tell you most of what you need to know (the dimensions are on there.) THANKS!!! ps. yes that's a sheet of 2" foam on the freight elevator door...helps a tiny bit but not much. |

Simple, go back to Ethans message board and read the "READ THIS FIRST" post and then read the "READ THESE FAQ's" that are in there. All the info you need. Narco |

I would like to comment on Ethan's article that i find the type of fiber glass he recommends to be extremely hard to track down for a resonable price. Anybody else get this material locally? If so, where? |

Hey. When you say that the much bigger loft space is not seperated from your control area, I gather that picture number 2 is taken from this "loft living area" .... right?? If that is the case, what is the size and layout of this larger loft/living area? Cheers

bones: no the flick in #2 is standing on a chair inside the control room... hmm, lemme see if I can do a really very quicky diagram(see attached) obviously not to scale or even close but gives you a pretty good idea... neglected to include the freight elevator indentation behind the mixer (or my bathroom or windows for that matter).. anyhow thanks guys! beatzz: to get corning 703 or 705 look up an insulation supply place in the phone book. here in NYC i found a place JandS has boxes containing six 2'x4'x2" pieces for $38 bucks. now if only it wasn't so far from the train station! |

beatzz, > Anybody else get this material locally? If so, where? < Your profile doesn't state your location, and you didn't tell us in your post either. Where do you live? New York City? Chicago? Zimbabwe? ![]() --Ethan

I m sure ethan is going to hook you up with some good advice, but I would turn the mixer the other way pull out that half wall and put the board about 8-9 feet back from that front wall (with the windows) and deaden the entire front wall with 703 and run 45 degree angles of 703 in the corners, based on your diagram
