DIY bass trap and plastic

Ive made some owens corning 703 absorers.

I wrapped the bare sheets in garbage bags.... then in polyester batting... then in muslin fabric.

from what i understand... the plastic

wont affect the lower frequencies,

but will it affect the highs and mids even with 2 layers of fabric over top?

thanks all

sorry this wont answer your question but I was just curious whereabouts do you acquire the 703? Their web site hasnt been very informative towards consumers.

i believe that in order to be a broadband absorber, you have to be able to breath through whatever you cover it with.. so i imagine that the plastic would reflect some highs.

http://forum.studiotips.com has more reliable information than i do about this stuff..

as for where to buy 703, there are alternatives that are easier to aquire. http://www.bobgolds.com/AbsorptionCoefficients.htm has a list of various materials and their absorption coefficients. i'm using Roxul RXL40 for my treatment. i just emailed roxul and they got me in touch with a local distributor.

The polyester batting would probably reverse the effects of the plastic regarding upper frequency reflection. I doubt it would cause a very big difference either way to the lower end of absortion.

That appears to be true, from the research I did, you really want to go with material that can breathe.

Check out Ethan Winer's site if you haven't already.

One more thing ... if i were to do it again)which i will) Roxul mineral fiber seems to

be a better alternative. 4'' thick , 4lb per sq foot
