The 15% off is already applied to the BLA. There's not another discount on top of that for the mic mods. :( I thought the same thing too and Mr. J corrected me.

Oops, sorry about that. Black Lion and I reviewed the text of the promo a dozen times and totally missed that point of confusion.

Because the Auteur is a single product we listed its actual sale price. But as I'm offering 15% off my entire line of mods the easiest way to express that was as a percentage. Mixing the two discount descriptions created some confusion. My apologies.

So...Is the Auteur $395 by itself, or only with the purchase of a mic??? -Thx

The Auteur is regularly $465. You get it for 15% off ($395) when you make a simultaneous OktavaMod purchase - this can either be a new, modified mic OR an upgrade to a mic you send me that I modify. You also get 15% off the OktavaMod list price.

Orders are being handled by Black Lion.

From what I've picked up from this thread, getting a BLA to replace my RNP wouldn't be much of an upgrade?

Seems like the opions go a little in favor of the BLA but not my that much, right? Probly better to save for a GR or something like that when I want to upgrade?

If anyone would care to disagree or has any input it'd be much appreciated

Thanks for the time.

Hello. I have the Autuer ( as well as the GR,OSA,Biz, etc..).. I've used the RNP also..I think it's gonna depend on the source which would work best for you. I like the Autuer. It's not for everything, but neither are the others...I've stated that if it was a 500 style pre, IMO would be one of the " sought after" pres...For the money and you're on a budget, it's worth the listen...

Thanks. I know I kinda answered my own question already i think.

I'd mainly be recording vocals and DI bass but some other stuff like acoustic guitar and live percussion too.

There is something to what someone said earlier in this thread about the features of the RNP. I have an RNC also, so the inserts on the RNP are nice (although there are ways around this). Also it didn't look like the BLA has DI inputs. This really isn't a problem for me though because I use a passive DI box between my bass and the pre anyway. And plus I'd probably just hold onto my RNP no matter what as a backup.

That's obviously not an option for everyone, at 4x the price per channel...

Having all three, I'd have to agree. I do like the sound of the Auteur somewhat better than the RNP but they RNP has more features/functionality so it's a tossup. If possible I'd save up and make a bigger step up...

BTW I have A/B clips of the GR ME-1NV, RNP and Auteur if you're interested I can email them no problem....

Paul, I would love to hear an A/B comparison. I currently have a RNP and have an Auteur on its way to me...would love to hear how they compare to the GR (which is a bit out of my price range right now).

Please email me if you can: bwebb71@gmail.com

Thanks!

Can the BLA fit in a 1U rack mount? If so how many can I fit in a 1U rack?

Good question, it seems like it might but I'm not sure, it's a bit narrower and taller than the RNP

I have both the BLA + RNP. The BLA is 2" tall so it won't fit in a 1u rack space (1 3/4") without removing it from the case. Sonically both are equally good with a sm57 on snares or guitars. Adequate on vocals, but not stellar. Just my 2 cents, but I've only had my BLA 3 months, and I've had my RNP for 2 years, so time will tell.

Well that sucks. I wanted to get a few pres to add to my echo layla. I was going to get 2 dmp3's, a bla auteur, and was thinking perhaps some rane msb1's or even the studio projects vtb. Now the BLA is out of the question for me because it is a rack mounted portable setup. Now I think I will have to find something else.

Have you thought about a Sytek? They are racked and you get 4 for adecent price. They would likely be a step up. I think they run about 700 or so.

What model. I was looking at the 202 I think it was called. Are they better than the dmp3? I have a grace m101 and a spirit m4 currently, I was considering another grace but that would blow the budget and I would not get 7 ore 8 pres. I can get away with 6 for under a g.

check it out:
Sytek Audio Systems - MPX-4Aii Four-Channel Microphone Preamplifier

I do believe it would be a step up. Search here for Sytek and you should see lots of opinions. It is the pre section of a Neotek Elite or Elan console which people love here.

They have a rep for being clean pres, kind of a quality bang for buck utility pre.
