Delta 44 vs Profire 610

Hey guys currently I have a Delta44 and DMP3 and was planning on getting a Midisport 2x2 for midi and HP4 for headphones. I was wondering though if instead of doing that I should just invest in an all in one type interface like the 610. It has 192khz conversion as well as 4 more outs and Digital I/O.

So far on the delta and dmp3 Ive spent a total of about $150. The hp4 and midisport would prob cost another $100. So thats $250 compared to about $320 for the 610.

Thanks guys,
Jordan

I had a delta 44 and it was rock solid but for some reason m-audio's firewire drivers seem flakier than a dandruff conference.

You probably want to get some feedback from 610 owners as to the stability of the unit

they are 2 diferent bests completely
delta 44 is a PCI based interface
profire 610 is a firewire based one

what i can say to you is that the profire 610 have the latest converter technology from maudio and octane preamps..

i use to have deltas they work good... for its price..
now i have a profire 2626 and the diference are night and day..
the profire 610 is the 2 channel version of the 2626...

if you can aford the 610
get it
Rolo.

thanks for the response guys. Yeah I realize they are in two different areas the thing is I'm going to be moving off to college in a year so I was thinking all of the gear I have now I'll have to switch because I'll be on a laptop.

How do the pres on the 610 compare to the DMP3?

Will they be able to get a good level out of a dynamic as on my DMP3 I have to have it @ around 1-3 o'clock?

How stable is it?

And finally I would need to get a firewire card for my computer, how important is that in the signal path. Are there specific ones I should look for?

thanks again :D

If you do go for the profire, get a TI chipset firewire card. Check out the woes this guy has had with profire

This is the PCI based Firewire card to get:

ADS Tech PYRO PCI 64R2 DV cards API-315 PCI Interface

I've heard that the SIIG is OK, but this is what I and others have. Supposedly Digi/Avid approved.

The motherboard chipset is sometimes a culprit in poor performance. I recommend an Intel chipset based board for Intel Processors and a Via or Nvidia based board for AMD. Lot's of variables out there, do a little research. The RME tech articles and forums have a lot to say about the performance of different components in a PC.
