Interesting. This appears to be the product page:

Golden Age Project

What type of transformers does it have? Anyone willing to crack theirs open?

Cheap Chinese. I think these guys bought a butt load of the Group Buy pres and adapted/improved on them a little bit, not sure. But they don't have the real iron (Carnhill), no doubt.

...basically, very similar to (or the same as) the Chameleon Labs version but without the EQ...

Chameleon transformers look familiar? Sure now they have version with
European transformers for a price, the same thing could be done by the customer
with CAP or similiar

Yeah, the Chameleon with their upgraded transformers seems like the way to go.

I just received the 7602 from Front End Audio with the premium upgrade. It has Carnhill xformers, tantalum caps and the correct output driver. I'm pretty damned impressed so far. No regrets.

I'm pretty sure there is a full song tracked with the GAP pre-73 in the large GAP pre thread. If you do a search it's the longest thread having to do with the pre-73. Actually there are lots of audio examples in there and there may be more than one song tracked with only the pre-73.

gap73

hello all,
Im mixing an album that the producer (a friend of mine) used a gap73 and a mic modified by a USA guy (very nice in fact) and i tested the pre and its great!

Very direct, mostly good for vocals i guess...BUT all the voices have a lot of noises (packs) a strange noises, and i asked my friend (maybe it was just bad edits) but when he bring the gap73 to my studio, right after we turned it on, he started making a lot of noise (packs) like it was almost blowing...

My friend phoned gap line and they told him maybe it was humidity...

BUT, i listened this "voice demo" on this thread and i can heard the noise there too...

cant you hear? like...30 litle "packs"

thats ONLY why, im still thinking on buying it or dont...

cheers

seb

I feel dumber for having read this last post. You may gave a legitimate gripe, however, can you at least speak English and specify the actual problem?

Pull the plug on the grammar war, please.

"G" is right next to "H" on the keyboard - easy mistake for anyone to make. The previous poster lives in Portugal - cut some slack for the guy, eh?

Although I haven't listened to the referenced samples (none provided/linked), do you mean to say you hear 'plosives' ('P', 'B', 'D' pressure on mic diaphram) or some other distortion? I wonder if it might be a phantom power issue (too weak/strong for the mic used). Many designs are trying to get away from the 48V standard to keep costs down in the power supply dept., secretly opting for the more commonly found 12-24V range that some mics would 'starve' from. It'll be labelled "48V", but is it 'really' +/- 3V from that? And not knowing the power conditions of your homeland, there may be 'dirt' within the power grid or even under-rated voltage being sent to your listening/recording environments. Uneducated guesses, I guess.

gap 73

heys,

Thanks Analok! In fact im not english, so im sorry for my poor english! Cmon dont make me feel bad

Anyway.. the actual problem that i see on this pre is, he makes a LOT of noises when recording vocals for ex (because you will have it on your face on the mix) can the other guy make more vox samples?

My friend will send his gap73 to the factory to repare and to full mod it!

cheers

seb

And I feel even dumber. Should have checked your signature. My apologies. I was picturing someone trying to be cool talking "street talk", whatever that is. Oh and the H and G are even closer on a phone. I need to chill out, though. Peace and love
