More than 8 inputs via adat? -- more inputs for my 003?

I was wondering if it was possible to have more than 8 inputs via adat.
ideally i would love to have ten, but i havnt seen any.

right now i'm using a Digimax FS, with 8 inputs, going into my 003.

does anybody know if they make more than 8 inputs for adat?
or is it possible to hookup two digimax's and get 16 additional inputs for my 003?

You can only have 8 channels of 44.1/48k audio on ADAT. You would need to get a interface with more than one ADAT input.

The 003 only have 1 ADAT in.

i saw this from another post but i have a question as to the bottom's solution... When i run my digimax, i have to set the clock settings in pro tools from internal, to optical..

i know theres a spdif option, but if i do happen to go with say the firebox, would i be able to use tho's two channels without problems while the clock is still set to optical?

SPDIF inputs (2 channels)

You can find another two channel A/D (analog to digital) unit, like an M-Box or Presonus Firebox that has a SPDIF output, that like the Digi-003, has mic inputs (pre's) and then send that box's SPDIF output to the Digi 003 SPDIF input (as suggested by Ben B) and now have 10 channels in.

Since the digimax is doing the A/D you are using that as the clocking source, and the 003 is just clocking off of the ADAT output of the Digimax.

The FireBox will be able to use its mic pre's and send that down the SPDIF output to the in on the 003. There by getting you 10 channels.

i just went to musiciansfriend.com and looked up the firebox, and i see SPDIF but the not typical spidf cable.. its like special type of connection? do you know if the firebox comes with an adapter?

yes, there is a DB9 connector on the back, which handles SPDIF in/out and Midi. It comes with that breakout cable.

im looking into this and was about to start a thread. so thumbsup

the problem with firebox is that it will only be 2 more inputs. .

itll be cool if you could add a lightbridge maudio. maybe through the "aggregate device under OSX in the mac"

anyother ideas?

i doubt you can use Aggregate device with Digidesign Core Audio.

Actually I didn't even get Aggregate device working with two firepods.. Even after following directions from presonus

It is NOT possible to use more than 8 Channels of I/O over the ADAT port of any 001-002-003-possibly the 004. REpeat: NOT possible. I'm going to guess it will be that way until 007? With the eh-Audio Interfaces, you can easily get 16 channels of ADAT. I think its called the Mpowered Light Bridge? Ya know, the one that sounds Like a Star wars space ray. Bottom line; You just can't get 16 channels ADAT with Digi LE Box. On a 002/3 In total; you can use 18 channels. 8 Analog I/O & 8 Digital I/O over ADAT @ 44.1/48K AND/SOMETIMES OR/2 Channels SPDIF I/O.
