TC Helicon Voiceworks mic pre quality?

Hello all,

Obviously this unit is intended for vox processing....BUT...

Has anyone used the mic pre just for that...a mic pre....on a variety of sources...

Any impressions?

I have the VW and i did a lot of recordings with its pre when i started out.

I really like the pre. It is very clean/transparant and better than say the focusrite penta i have, but for sources where i need brightness i tend to use my traveler pre's.

Since this is low end i won't talk about my pacifica which is my main pre and is ofcourse way better.

Especially when recording pop/jazz/acoustic it's quite nice but like i said, it,s not very bright, or rock/metal-punchy, and on some very dynamic sources you have to watch the bandwith.

But i think especially for the price, this is one of the better pre's around and great for vocals and acousic guitar. It also stacks quite well!

The newer voiceworks (pro?) has another pre in it which is supposed to be even better but i have never heard that one...........hopefully i gave you guys some insight

cheers,

Roger
