Thread Starter | Nady DMP-2 / Art USB Dual Pre / Recommendations?
Hi, I'm looking for a portable (i.e. battery powered) solution to boosting two CAD M179 condensers to line level for connection to line input of a portable recorder. The only ones I have found in my budget (<150 US dollars) are the Nady DMP-2 and the Art USB Dual Pre. Specifications for the DMP-2 are sparse, and no noise specs are given. The Art USB Dual Pre boasts "greater than 90dB signal-to-noise ratio." Should I trust this? Also the CAD M179 requires at least 24v or 48v phantom power capable of delivering at least 8mA...what does this 8mA mean? Is there any way to check if a preamp is delivering this? I would definitely buy a standard preamp if there was a way to power it portably...is there some sort of battery pack I can use to power these two mic-input mixer/preamps (Mackie 402-VLZ3, Behringer XENYX 1002FX, etc.). As far as sound quality goes, as long as it's quiet, I'm happy. It doesn't have to be pro-sounding silence. I'm recording quiet music (e.g. classical chamber music), but the CAD M179 aren't very noisy with their large diaphragms, right? I read somewhere they were quieter than the AKG C414. Any help would be appreciated, Thanks! |
