Choosing a low budget Vocal Microphone

I'm thinking about a Studio Projects B1, AT4040 or something. I have a kinda raspy voice.

My friend. I'm shooting for 3 things.

1. Blue Baby Bottle.
2. Oktavamod MK319
3. AT 4050

Which ever pops up first for the cheapest.

i'm using an AT4050 mostly right now and i'm very happy with it. it gets used a lot elsewhere on my recordings as well. i've also, however, gotten some good results from a CAD GXL3000. these go on sale at musicians friend pretty regularly for around 70 bucks. i'm not saying that its amazing but there are times where it has been the best choice of what i have. it makes a pretty good floor tom mic also

doesn't get much cheaper than that.

Adk Hamburg or Adk Vienna. both are $350 each and for anyone that knows about these mics, they rival almost and mic under $1200 plus some....

Why don't you get an SM58?
It's good, it's tough and its immunity to bad sounding rooms is vastly superior to any cheap condenser. You won't outgrow it like you will outgrow a cheap condenser down the line.

Or a 57. Aren't there like a zillion posts on here that ask the same question?

for vocals. My preference is the 57 over the 58. i find it less harsh.

I gotta say, in that price range this mic is overlooked:

I really do like the mic, very rich sounding on a low budget.

...if your low budget also means you're recording in a untreated space, then skip the cheap condenser route and go straight for the SM7B...pro quality without the sound of your neighbor's dog barking...

BTW War...what's so f***in' funny?...

Pour all your money into pres, converters and cables they will make much more of a difference than the mic.

I just have a summit audio 2BA-221 preamp I just got off of ebay. Any other mic suggestions. what about Avant mic's? Really happy about the input. Sm7b sounds interesting but then again the nieghbours dog in the background could add some depth.

War,

why would you need a mic to fill more than one hole?

Even if it is "small", to fit into tight places with other mics???

Thanks in advance

I'd recommend the Oktava MK-319 (get it modded later if funds don't allow now) or a Shure SM7-b.

i had to use this mic awhile back for vox and some ac and elec guitars. i usually prefer and use high end mics. this mic blew me away! 100 bucks! no shockmount but very, very, sturdy mount and case. to me the best large/med condenser for the buck. seems like it will last as long as my 58 and 57. i also love the at 4050(my fav all around mic) but it can be pricey new for a lower budget. ive done the research and this 2020 stands out. oh yeah , no pad switch, but what gear now doesnt have pads.....good luck.

Listen to this advice. I spent 3 years renting condensors and fighting the battle of dogs barking, fridge running, PC noise 20 feet away, cars going by. The SM7b eliminates that problem completely, requires no mic technique to get a good to great vocal take without popping and is also great on things like kick, bass cab, and upright bass. Best $350 I ever spent on a mic.
