Help with a hissing AT 4050

I was testing out mics for a vocal session the other day and when I plugged in the 4050 It sounded like it was rainning really hard inside my controlroom. It has a wicked hissing sound,. I played with the pad, roll off switch and the polar patterns but nothong seemed to help. Just wanted to know if anyone else has ever experienced this with this mic, and if it is cheap to fix or just better to chuck the mic into oncomming traffic.
Thanx,
Javier

I've heard that AT will repair the mike for free or almost if it looks like it was normal wear and tear.

Try them.

I just got another one of my 4050s back from AT. I sent them one last year after hearing a slight buzz coming from the mic. I got it back in about two weeks with a note saying they had replaced the capsule. It didn't cost me anything aside from shipping to get it there. This most recent one had a similar buzz issue and I sent it to them one week ago. I just got it back with a note saying that the element had been tightened and it now tested up to spec. Again, no charge. I've used these mics on almost every project I've done for the last five years. AT is absolutely superb in terms of tech support. You don't even need to call them for an RA number. Just send them the mic with a note explaining the problem.

Top notch.
