How close are you to your final sound when finished tracking ?

It varies for me and depends alot on the instrument and the performance but usually...

I can get 70% of the final drum sound when finished tracking.
-85% for electric guitar
-80% for bass guitar
-about 90% for vocals.

Im curiouse how close are you guys in getting your final sound from the beginning. It doesnt matter if you add the comps and the EQ from the start. Lets see

I'm at least 87.3%

Seriously, how can you quantify like that such an abstract concept as "being close to the sound" ????

On a side note, I was as close to the tracking sound I had on one of this year's project that I only equed the bass and snare, and strap an STC-8 in the mix buss and that was it.

First time I had so little to do actually

some days, everything runs smooth and nice

I didnt really want to quantify it with a number, just so it could be better understood. But what you said is exactly what in interested in. Thanks, more more!!!

When I press stop, I'm done! It's all mixed and ready to go to mastering.

Ah the joys of live to 2 track.
