Mid to low budget eq's

Any suggestions in the midbudget range would be greatly appreciated. At the studio i'm using Api and the like, and i'm quite confident in my knowledge of the high end eqs. but at my home studio i would love a nice affordable (but something that WONT ruin my signal chain) eq to go with my isa 428s. Maybe i'm missing the boat but there just doesnt seem to be much out there. its either crap behringer, low budget presonus or straight to api, vintech summit etc... or channel strips of some sort. thanks for any help guys.

Check the Toft ATC-2, which has an EQ similar to the famous Trident 80B. It's around $1000 for a twin channel unit (with pre-amp and compressor).

It uses a different circuit, Alan from PMI Audio confirmed that. The 80B circuit is the one with the switchable low freq's, on the EC-1 it's sweepable. Might be a good EQ as well, but it's not the 80B design, nor meant to sound like it afaik.

I believe not, the EC-1 EQ is a new design afaik. The A-range EQ would be more expensive. Malcolm has plans to make a reissue of that one under the Toft brand as well tho, but it's delayed till after the release of his new console.

apparently, it's based on the mta:

i think he said that the new 2-channel eq would be based on it too...

Yeah axeman I don't know where you live, but to my knowledge HHB discontinued their distributorship of TLA here, so if there's any product laying around I'm sure they're trying to get rid of it.

I use a Rane ME 15, 15 band stereo eq. Excellent quality components, built like a tank, does the job I need.

Please forgive the shameless self-promotion but we also make a cool EQ channel that's audiophile quality but still very affordable. Also functions as a DI:

http://www.edpettersen.com/edpettersen/Coileq.html

$595.00 street. Thanks.

Ed,

What's with the box on you EQ? Judging be sideways pictures (?) on your website it looks awful large and cumbersome. Why not a rack mount?

Good question. The box actually is about the size of a Demeter DI box, maybe slightly larger so it isn't as cumbersome as it may appear at my site. Operator error. I'm no Scavullo. There's a slightly better pic at: www.valvotronics.com
We made it portable for the working musician/performer so you can take it with you to your gigs and keep your settings gor your particular pickup(s) and not be at the mercy of the venue mixer.

We do also now have a rack mount version with a vaccuum tube front end (the smaller box is solid state) and a ground and bypass switch and gain (it sounds really cool overdriven with a Tele). It's a 1RU size. That sells for $895.00 street.

Thanks for asking.

thanks guys, i really appreciate the recomendations. i will certainly be checking some of these products out very soon. Travis k, yeah i do own some 500 series ureis, they are pretty cool but not as warm and beefy as i would like, i dig the ureis in the fx loop of high gain guitars, i can get alot more focused using em that way, but on inserts it feels like it narrows the sound almost to much for me.
