I was at Guitar Center the other day and saw two new Blue mics in the shape of a ball. Condenser mics one was black(99$) and the other was light blue(200$). How good are these mics?

i bought it because i was told by the guy at blue that it was an amazing kick mic. i got very little low frequencies when placed on kick though! i may have had a broken one but i didin't really care for it on anything.

the blue one is around $100, and the black one is $200 or more. there is also a "kick ball" that i believe is white, but don't quote me on that. the black one is a condensor, the blue one is phantom-powered dynamic (+48 is for the pre). i've only used the blue one, about all i found it good for was elec. guitar cabs. had more high-end bite than a 57. i bought one, fwiw

The Kickball is red. There was a lot of hype about the Ball when it came out, but I haven't heard anything about the 8-ball and the Kickball.

There are 4 blue ball-shaped mics. I haven't used any of them but I've heard from friends about them. The original blue ball is kinda a 57 on steroids but way too bulky to use on snare. The 8 ball is a condensor that is supposedly pretty bright in a 4033 way. Kickball is um....supposedly not that great. The snowball (not out yet) is basically an audio interface more or less. A USB mic. And the reason they are a ball? Because the guy from blue likes softball. They are regulation sized softballs.

Tried the Blue Ball (blue mic, for kick), sounded boxy, no bottom, no highs.

Blue Ball works on dist. guitars. best as an abused room mic for drums(distorted, comped)

I'll second that. The blue one has a pretty sharp drop off below 100 hz so I don't doubt it's lousy on kick.
