| Id whip out the tranny and stick in a Cinemag (not sure which model number off the top of my head sorry) I did a mod of the Apex 205 a couple of months back and it sounds AMAZING!! (tbone rb500 here in the uk). Firstly I retentioned the ribbon correctly, replaced all the internal wiring with solid silver jewellers wire, replaced the transformer with the cinemag, took out windshields and extra layer of mesh, ground of the shitty aluminium finish to reveal the lovely natural brass underneath, took off the shitty blue paint to get the lovely gun metal finish, enameled it, interally padded the lower half of the body with very very dense felt (to remove a mechanical resonance, worked a treat!) and you would never, ever know this was a Chinese mic, it sounds nothing short of stellar and looks smooooth too. I'm going to do another couple, but this time i'm going to try and solder with silver (with the help of a jeweller friend), or do some silver fusion (were working this one out) instead of standard solder. I can't wait!! ![]() |
