Presonus M80 Question

Hi everyone. So I have a question about my new (used) Presonus M80 and my new (also used) Presonus ACP88. I was wondering if the signal at the outputs on the M80 is the same signal as is found at the sends. The reason I ask is that I'm trying to figure out what cables to get to hook the M80 up to the ACP88. I checked out the manual and I can't really glean anything from it, but I figured both would be the same. I also tested both outputs together today with both the Output and the Send of the same channel with the same source, going into ProTools on two different mono tracks and they sounded different from each other. Also, the signal from the Send was coming in at a higher level. Any ideas on this? Thanks for the help!!

I had the APC-88 ( not sure about the M-80). I think the send/returns on the ACP-88 is balanced TRS as well as the in/outputs. Probably just need a TRS cable to interface the two units. Good luck!.......

Yeah that's what I would suspect too. It was weird though that I got different levels from the Output and the Send. I would think that the signal at the Send hits everything that the signal at the Output hits, but they sounded different. Very strange. So do you think I could go from the M80 Sends to the ACP88 Inputs and then from there into my 002 rack and skip going back into the M80 via the Returns? I feel like such a goof for asking that question. I felt like I had a pretty good handle on what I was doing until I ran that little test today. Snatchman, I'm just curious as to how you found the ACP88. I just got mine in the mail and have yet to give it a go. Thanks again!

Well it should sound the same..tone wise. but the level would be different. The gain knob on the front I believe is also going to drive the output..(louder)

But it's not going to drive the send louder I don't think.. Or turning up your gain would feed your comp harder.. I don't think it's setup that way.

I have an M80(I use just for extra ch's) but never needed to run the comps on the inserts.. if I did comp something..I just used a comp on the output like I do all my other micpres.

But I'm in a session and can't test it.. I don't even have the insert patched to my patchbay.

Hello. Did you try the -10/+4 button on the back of the ACP-88? Just me, but why not come out of the output of your M-80 in-line into input of the ACP-88. I thinkthere may be a level difference in the send/return impedeance compared to the line input/outputs. As far as the sound of the ACP-88, I found it ok. Don't hit it to hard or the signal seems to get " small" quick. The only other thing I found was the fan was noisey. ( if using in a control room, should be ok live).. Good luck..

Cool guys. Thank you for the replies. I'm going to mess around with the M80 tomorrow some and see what's what. I think I might just use the output on the pres as I'm not sending the signal back into the returns of the M80. Time to make some cables!

Yeah that's what I said... I always just come out of pres into comps/EQ's.. that's how I have stuff patched on my bay.

M80 Opinon

I have heard this pre... But I have one and I am thinking about sending it in because I dont have the original power supply, so they have to convert it to the new... before I send it... I wanted to hear some opinions about the unit before I add it to my arsenal.

Much more than half of my own posts are little quips or left-field style comments, i shudder to think that every single thing anyone says needs to be strictly germane to the topic at hand.

That's what.
