I really don't know, but my guess is that they're the same.

I definitely wouldn't pay more for 8 digi preamps, when a good number of engineers don't even use the 4 that the old version had on it.

I was going to trade in my 002 for a 003, and get a black lion mod. I think I'll wait till they offer a mod on this 003+. THAT would be kick ass!

This should not be in low end just because HD is in High End, great Cds/artist are cut with LE stuff.

Oh for sure... if you supplement your LE system with High End AD/DA, High End mic pres/comps, high end plugins.

I mean, otherwise the 002/003 family is low end...

No surround support in M-Powered... CPTK only works in LE.

Glad I got a regular 003R so I didn't have to pay more for more crappy unusable "preamps"!

See, I thought this would be great for modding... get better converters and analog stages, then add your own outboard preamps. But, I've read that the Line Ins would go through the gain pots. Maybe I should stop trying to come up with the perfect hot-rodded LE system, and just save for an HD system...

I have both 003 console and 2626, and I only use the analog stages on either for drums when necessary. Everything else is outboard converters and pre's etc. I believe my rig sounds better than an HD rig with 192i/os any day of the week.

I'm hoping to get a Rosetta or Aurora8 to put into the ADAT port of my 002, with 8 solid pres (thinking a couple 3124+s). I love my A2D, and can't stand the digi converters now that I've used the API converters.

However, I wanted to see about getting more channels, perhaps with a BLA mod or something. I know it's a bit excessive, but I'd love to be able to record an entire band off the floor with 18 great preamps going through decent converters. I thought the 003+ might be good for modding, but not if it keeps the gain pots in line...

I must admit, I don't know the technical end of this stuff that well. Recording is just a hobby, not a career. I'd love to learn more. Perhaps the gain pots could help attenuate a hot 312?!

They are gain pots on the 002/003, not attenuators, sadly. They might offer a pad I'm not sure. But google Naiant Clever Devices and buy a couple inline attenuators if you are driving those ADCs too hard. The A2D of course has those two attenuator pots for just this purpose...I'd always be sending my 312's through those if I could.

They aren't "unusable". They aren't great but they're good enough to get the job done if you have to use them. If you can't make a decent sounding recording with the 003 pres then it's probably not the preamps that are the problem. I agree though, I'd rather it honestly not have any preamps.

Awesome, I'll definitely have to scoop a couple of those up.

I was looking at the 2626, and I must admit the SMUX is a pretty awesome aspect. I'm sure the 8 line ins aren't world class, but I imagine some decent pres going into them would still yield a good result. I have officially ruled out any future with the 003+.

+1..they are not that bad..you definitely should have a separate pre for vox..or acoustic guitar...but the 003 pres work well!!!

that kinda sucks actually. If I have decent preamps and no ADAT solution, my decent preamps are forced to pass through the pre's on the 003

Another +. The 003 pre's are far from unusable. They're clean and "uninteresting", but you could do a whole lot worse.
