There are no dumb questions, just dumb people. I kid. No, once the fidelity is lost, it cannot be regained.

If you think of an MP3 like a cheap photocopy of a beautiful picture it may make more sense. The cheap photocopy "misses" some of the detail. If you then took a real photograph of that photocopy, you would be taking a picture of that same missing detail.

Listen, let me defend GearAddict here a little. When you take an file and zip it to reduce it's file size, you can always regain the original. So the thought process is worth at least asking when it comes to mp3s. When you zip a wave file, it makes it like half the size. When you unzip, no fidelity loss there. So the logic is actually quite sound to ask the question. And, then you get Creative spouting some BS about regaining fidelity from Mp3s (which basically means a little upward expansion and aural exciter) for their desktop speaker systems and I can see why you'd ask. |

You thinking a joke was funny has nothing to do with any of this. And I'm done. Gearaddict, if you've got a question and I haven't answered it (I don't open 99% of threads in Low End) and you'd like my opinion, feel free to PM. | |
