Here's one of the latest things I've done. Any comments are welcomed and much appreciated:

http://www.ryanadam.com/studio/BringItOn3.MP3

Photo of the studio is here:

http://www.ryanadam.com/studio/sm-IMG_3389.jpg

Gear used for that song:

Drum OH - (2x) Peavey PVM-480 condensers, X-Y over the snare through SMPro PR8 with Burr Brown chips.

Toms - (3x) Sennheiser e604 thru small Yamaha mixer (10" & 12") and SmPro (Floor)

Snare (top) - Audix i5 through Presonus Eureka
Snare (bottom) - Sennheiser e609 thru SMPro PR8

Kick - Audix D6 through Chameleon Labs 7602

Room - MXL V69me through PR8 then crushed with the free SSL comp.

Bass (close) - Shure Beta 52 close on the cabinet through Chameleon Labs 7602
Bass (2 feet back) - MXL V69me through Presonus Eureka

Guitar (5150 Cab) - SM57 through Chameleon Labs 7602
Guitar (H&K Greenback Cab) - SM57 through Eureka
Guitar (2 feet back) - MXL V69me through SMPro Pr8

Vocals - MXL V69me through Eureka

Mix has four passes of rhythm guitar (for 12 tracks total) and four passes of lead guitar (with just the 5150 cab, so that's only 4 more tracks)

Lead vox are doubled with the 2nd track tucked way under the first.

BG Vox are doubled, panned out a little bit.

All of that was tracked into Samplitude v7 (yeah, it's old, but it works PERFECLTY and I can't afford to upgrade) and mixed in the box. Only tweaks were with Samplitude EQ and an instance of RComp here and there.

Well, here's mine - MySpace.com - Ivory Coast - Birmingham / Cullman, Alabama - Jazz / Nu-Jazz / Blues - www.myspace.com/ivorycoastjazz . The song Morning People was recorded mostly live with some keys and guitar overdubs. Here's the gear:

Snare - SM57 on top only to ART DMPA
Kick - Beta91 to ART DMPA
Toms - e609's to Firepod pres
Overheads - Oktava MK012's to Firepod

Electric Guitar - SM57 on cab to Firepod
Bass - Firepod direct in
Keys - Motif ES direct in with some FM8 overdubs
Acoustic - Oktava's through DMPA

This was recorded with Cubase and "mastered" with Ozone.

By the way, Ryan, I really like the sound you're getting. Not my thing, but great sound....

Thanks for the compliment!

Your stuff sounds really clean - which is surprising cuz the times I've tried to use a Firepod I decided I'd be better off banging my head against the wall.

I listened to most of the other stuff here, too. Lots of good stuff. Unclenny had me grinning instantly - that's a great tune.

A few of them seem a little on the hot/crushed side, tho... Maybe it's an artistic choice, I dunno. but when my hard-rock type tunes is lower on the monitors than something less "loud" it seems odd.

Thanks to everyone for sticking your neck out and posting some samples! I love hearing what other people are doing with their stuff. Keep 'em coming!

Gear used for that song:................
Sounds decent, not for nothing though..the vocals stand out real sh@tty. Do yourself (and your band) a big favor, and don't use that Eureka for your vocals. Of coarse I(and most) would say get the avalon, but even DBX tube pre's sound nice, for now..throw a plug or somethin on em.

Can I be so bold as to ask you (or anyone else who has listened) what's "sh@tty" about the sound/tone of the vocals? I'm certainly not asking about the performance - I don't think you were talking about that.

Anyhow, for what it's worth, I don't like the Avalon. Not to mention you're talking about a $2000 preamp vs. my Eureka which set me back $300 and a few minutes to slap in some (free, sample) Linear Technologies chips.

For vocals, I'd rather have something clean and neutral - and that's exactly what I'm getting out of the Eureka.

If I wanted a colored pre on the vocals I could use my Chameleon labs pre & EQ then maybe even run that through the Eureka compressor. But, like I said, I like a cleaner vocal path.

I thought the vocals sounded good. Sat well to my ears also - the mix wrapped around them - in a way which i'm not used to, but i enjoyed it none-the-less.

no need to be cookie-cutter! keep up the good work thumbsup

I'll post another one or two here when I get them finished. Working on the mixes now, so I'm gonna get back to that.

This is mine but i think i can get pro results. Infact im getting a small project studio built very soon.

Focusrite saffire pro 26 io with behringer ada8000 8 mic pre given 16 channels of in out with Art headphone amp all in a nice portable rack case.

quadcore pc with cubase sx 3 inc loads of plugins. also dualcore laptop for live recording.

tapco s.5 monitors & some big hifi speakers for monitering.

Presonus faderport.

Set of audix mics.. i5 2x d2's d4 d6 2x adx-51's

2x studio projects b3's 1x studio projects c1

2x se electronics se1's

1 shure sm57

Loads of cheapish mics. Like 15 or so that are good to have around inc some d112 copies.

Cheap yamaha guitar. Cheap bass. Nice big sonar 2007 birch drumkit "great sounding kit" Also a yamaha dtxpress III "pretty naff"

Thinking about it it might end up more than £7000 or £3500 but not by that much.

I think the next thing for me is a nice big anologe mixing desk to add that little something to my mixes as i think there just a bit to digital... Better get saving

Download the "Wizard of Ahhhs EP" by Black Kids (torrents are everywhere, and it was a free release initially, so you won't be breaking any laws!)

The whole thing was recorded with a Presonus Firepod and 2 Shure SM57's... that's about as low-end as you can get!
