is the audio recorded in one pass?
ie, is it a live show? or are there punch ins, etc.

if it's all in one pass, you should be able to just yank the drive out and windows will see it.

but if it's punch ins and stuff, it's tricky because it's all different BWF files and i dont think it'll line up how you want it.

i actually have an SDR here and if I need to bring it into Nuendo, i just use the adat outs...

it's studio stuff with punches etc. and i'm on a mac. normally he just brings it in and we do a realtime adat transfer like you said but this time he's trying to not have to come down.

Have him render the tracks and burn them to a DVD if possible.
That is how I work with other studios Non-PT format.

otherwise, have him send you the drive, and you'll have to hire an sdr to do an adat transfer.

you cant render in the mackie as far as i remember.

here how ive worked with these types of units.
have him dump everything from the internal hardrive to a desktop computer that he wants you to work on. (page 45 of the sdr user guide has instructions on how to do this.) then have him burn you a DVD or transfer files via ftp.
on your end, open protools and in the audio bin import his files to your new PT session. do not import to track. run protools grid mood in "spot" Then sort your audio bin out by either track name, or time stamp. i use time stamp for when multiple tracks were being recorded at the same time, ie drums, stereo sources ensamble takes. i use track names for tracks that were recorded one at a time ie lead vox ect. once you have the bin sorted for the way you want. select a file or groups of files if you are copying multiple tracks at once, drag the files over the edit window on top of the first track you want to copy them too. let go and a dialog box will pop up that says "spot dialog" at the top. at the bottom of the box enter the original time stamp in to the "start" box and hit ok. protools will then move those files to there origanal location in time that they were recorded. hope that helps. happy mixing.

Tell him to buy Traction 2. It's been shipping for a few days now. It will open an SDR project file directly, and has a very fast render function that renders all the tracks in the file to new continuous tracks with identical lengths. Comes in pretty handy for $120.
