Talking DIY Reflection Filter aka Milkcrate Filter

Built with a milkcrate, 4 spare screws, an old piece of wood and mounted with duct tape to a spare mic stand.

Built in 10 minutes.

The filtering material is some old packing blanket material from UHaul.

Works like a charm!

You could use any absorbing material inside it like some thinner OC703 or moving blanket, you just have to get creative with mounting the material inside. I just used some thin pieces of kindling in the meantime before I find myself slicing up some OC703 to throw in there. But it already works fine! I did some A/B files and you can hear tons of room with the bare naked mic. You can add more gobos behind the artist for drier vocals but it will do in a pinch.

When uploading is enabled, I'll add the before and after files.

Peace
Illumination

the concept is right

I have also heard of people taking clothes on hangers and hanging them in a corner ... that or moving blankets draped over mic stands connected together.... that works quite well

That captured my imagination. It just so happens I called U-Haul ans asked about it, they say they rent blankets for $5 apiece but they'd be happy to give me one. I love experimenting with new materials (as long as there's no greater risk of fire etc).

Not too long ago SONY released a video with Douglas Spotted Eagle, in which he made a voiceover taking about 2-foot squares of white foam core, spraying glue and attaching Auralex (in under a minute). He duct taped them together and said when you're done using it you can hang the squares on the wall.

Fairly soon I'll show you an idea of mine that failed - it was a big piece of silent foam I carved to fit over my condensors. The sound - when you hear it you go "that sounds like foam around the mic" LOL Terrible.

Well if you're really interested. Uhaul throws them away by the boatload. When they close theres a giant barrel that they discard them into.

BUT them giving them away is better.
