Great on the soprano, but I dunno about that Iron Kobra.

Here's some more "brain powder": Go for a dbx 163. It will suck ass on vox, but for for a mere $50 it does amazing things to kick drums.

A 3630 would sound good on the kick, but for recording a soprano, I don't think I'd use the second channel (I'd be alright as a limiter or for live applications, though).

$100 is awful thrifty a vox comp for recording.....

Can you record w/o comp on the vox and add what you need later? (You can beg, borrow, or steal...)

Drop another $100 in the pot and grab an RNC... not my fav for kick (although worlds better then the... the... {cough!} dirty-six-dirty) but it'll work for vox pretty nicely, not to mention one of my favorite snare comps,... stay far away from the Alesis (at any price!) you'll thank me later!

Not to add fuel to the fire, the that dirty little Comp/gate works pretty well for kick and bass (anything without much content above 1kHz). If I had 24bit recording available, I'd be inclined to record it raw and comp it with a plug.

C'mon, what can you get for $50/channel? There's the 3630 and the Beringer... I can't think of much else.

Alright. A quick perusal of the new market turned up a yamaha for about $65 per channel, a Sampson (with de-S-er) for $60 per, a Nady for $40 per, a 4 chanel Sampson (without attack or release control) for $35 per, the Berhinger at $25 per and the 3630 at $50 per.

The only DBx unit even close to this price limit is the 266xl for about $75 per channel.

I used the Behringer before and it was probably a little better than half as good as the Alesis. I haven't used the Nady and the rest are over budget....

I get you could talk someone into selling a Valley People unit for $100 (and monkeys might....)

My friend, who is a mechanic, has a broken air compressor that he'll sell you for $100. I bet if you throw it at a kick or a singer, you'll get some very interesting sounds...

fuuck
