Thumbs up transferring cassette to cd

Hi sluts... I just moved this from another thread so maby you can help!

quick question.

One of my clients wants me to transfer a couple of his old songs from a cassette to a cd on our off time..what would be the best plugs to use to try and Restore the songs. He said that they are masterd pretty well, but just in case, I want to be prepared!

Im useing pro tools, but I do have the vst to rtas wrapper!!

The most important step is to optimize the tape playback. An adjustable-azimuth deck will help. Digital manipulation is polishing a you-know-what. Some noise from tape is more desirable than "cleaning" artifacts.

I think just add a touch of multiband compression to thicken out the bass. Cassettes always sounded a little thin to me.

Not just EQ though because you may introduce unwanted clipping (or not but at the expense of aparent volume)

This is really something for the mastering forum....

FWIW, I decided to transfer my "early" cassette works to Digital. I was unsure what I wanted to ultimately do so I just recorded it to my DAW. It sits there on a hard drive now and I can apply plugs one by one on each song based on its needs, rather than a one size fits all approach of transfer.

Also, if I get better restoration plugs in the future, I can clean them up even more.
