Cheap 6 space racks that don't look UGLY?

I want to purchase a 6 space rack, that can also be used to take my gear places..so it needs to be mobile too. BUT, all the 6-space rack spaces I'ves seen are really ugly. I'd like to know if any "sexier-looking" 6-space rack units exist that won't break the bank?

Build it

That way you can include the features that you want. Castors, handles, cup holders....

Building one doesn't sound like a bad idea! . Does anyone know of any easy tutorials to build one? I know it's something easy and basic to do, but I was hoping there were some well-thought out diy designs/methods out there.

Don't know how mobile you want your racks to be but IKEA has a TV-table on wheels in 3 colors (white, black, dark brown, €25 for the 1st, €35 for the colors) that fits 19" racks.

got two of them!!

Yea, this doesn't look that bad...but I've heard bad things about IKEA furniture... i.e. they look great in the catalog but kinda cheap-looking when you see them with your own eyes.

it's ok for what it is (mdf or fibreboard with a laminated top) and is designed to be put together once- I sleep in an ikea bed that has been moved two times and we had problems putting it back together the last time.

As it goes with gear: you get what you pay for.

Does Mesa still make racks? I got a shock mount rack several years ago (the high end-y one) and it looks pretty slick.

Here is some do-it-yourself info:

http://colomar.com/Shavano/rackcase.html

Finding a rack unit that looks nice in the studio and is roadworthy is going to be a bit of a challenge I believe. that's because studio furniture is designed to look good but not have to withstand the rigors of load-ins and load-outs. (repeated banging around in and out of vehicles/doors/loading docks will really trash a nice wood finish). Likewise, road cases are built to be banged into things, dropped by baggage handlers, tossed into the back of vans, shipped in the back of semis, etc. Not sure how much room there is between the two. I doubt that IKEA TV stand would last even a single gig.

Maybe a case with a faux textured vinyl finish or fake woodgrain would be the best bet. I've never been a fan of rug cases myself, although I have one. (it's currently serving as a squirrel feeder outside).
