Kurzweil Rumour is great

I just picked up one for percussion use. (small rooms) It is great for that purpose. I have not tried it for much else yet, but I must say that it has some great settings. And it is low end price wise, but I have to say it competes with some reverbs that cost a lot more.

I dont love mine. I like some of the algs. but I find it a bit boring sounding. Very clean and quiet, performs well but not my kind of gear. to many menus...
theres a preset there, 93 If I recall, dreamverb plate, sounds so nice for long washed sounds. the smaller room and ambiences I also like, the rest...

I got a 2016 eventide Im liking better. theres more weight and vibe or whatever. yes, it cost me twice the price

Also I prefer that way of working with gear, no menus, submenus, folders, whatever. Straight foward. What you see is what you get to change. the eq is so useful and easy to set. everything is easy to set and save. its more musical than a correct representation of a space.

The 2016 is more like 4x the price of the Rumour - not really a fair comparison, but yes, I'd certainly choose a 2016 over most hardware verbs.

I sold my 2016 and replaced it with the Rumour and I am very happy about it. For percussion, the Rumour sounds more natural. The 2016 sounded too much like an effects unit to me, which would be great for some things, but certainly for percussion, not worth the extra money over the Rumour IMHO.

A little known secret about the Rumour is its A/D converter...

We've A/B'd against Apogee and Lynx and gotta say they are really topnotch hidden in that gem.

Of course you can only go spdif, btu honestly they are a very smooth sounding converter and for the money who can complain.

Fletcher had a say about it once here somewhere...

Just did a whole album (sans drums) with them. They do sound quite nice. I actually have considered keeping the Rumour (along with the KSP8) to total 6 simultaneous channels of A/D input...

does the rumour have a pretty good or average 'plate' sound?

I really like the Plate in the Rumour but I always turn of the built in Eq and Adjust the High end damping.
