Question What happens in this situation?

Say you have some outboard converters that are rated 115 AD and you feed that into a shit card that is rated 95. I assume that since you are sending the signal digital to the internal card then nothing bad happens to it. i.e. loss of information.

If this is the case is there anything technically wrong with say hooking an Apogee up to a Soundblaster type card [if the connection was possible] other than the DA from the shit blaster card sucking?

Just curious.

Once the signal is digital, the dynamic range is only limited by the bitrate.
16 bit is like 96dB dynamic range, 24 bit is like 144dB dynamic range.

Also SB would ideally be word clock slave e.g. via S/PDIF.

You would also have to use standard Windoze wave drivers, which would probably be fine for just 2 channels (but can get really flakey in multichannel situations).

But why spend that much money on converters and then skimp on the audio card?
