please help me decide which room to choose for my studio

hello,
i'm moving to a new appartment and will have my project-studio
in that place.i have to decide which of these 2 rooms will be better
or easier acousticly to work with.
i'm monitoring through nearfiel pmc lb1.
wil do vocal overdubs and a lot mixing in there as well as recording acoustic instruments such as bass and percussion etc.
one room size is: 4.04mX4.62m
other room size is: 5.60mX3:64m
i can only use one for my studio the other one will be living room.

please feel free to give me your acoustic advise.
ceilings are 3m.

will use parete absorber and will get something for the corners as well.

thanx in advance
cheers

Gem,

Unfortunately, neither room is ideal. The first one is smaller but has better mode distribution. The second is longer in one dimension, but its modes are worse.

If I had to choose I'd pick the second room because the extra length is probably more important. That way you can have the rear wall farther behind you. Either way you should plan for plenty of bass trapping if you hope to make mixes that translate well. And in any room that small you also need to treat the first reflection points on the side walls and ceiling.

Yeah...the second room is less square....and less prone to standing waves and phase cancellation (comb filtering types of things).
