This mod will never make his website - it is a small run - kind of a favour for a few of his regulars type thing.
But he will do it for anyone that asks now that the design is done.
Just contact him direct - tell him you were communicating with me and found out about it.

FTR - I sent Ben my TnC 6802T for him to do his magic (complete gut and rebuild) as part of a 'gift' to me from RBZ's "More Free Stuff" thread. I thought the mic was lost: I sent it CanPost (surface mail = $80!!!) nearly 4 months ago - it arrived a few days ago!!!

I await to see what Ben does with the mic - I have no idea what it sounded like before the mods - it went directly from arriving in my hands out to him - but I suspect it will be a totally useable mic afterwards. Ben mentioned that he likes the metal work, and thinks they do a great job of that!

Here's to waiting for it's return...

I have some for sale - 2 * 73 and 2 * 84.

Haven't paid shipping yet so US customers welcome.

Would rather sell all at once though.

At least for me...I was in on this last one...and now I'm having to work on fixing the 81's to be useful.

Alan's advice/analysis on the last one was spot on....so I'm ALL for joining in on a group buy that he organizes...especially with regard to rack compressors clones (how about a 2-buss final mix L@-2@ type? stereo box, for example :-)

Seriously - I'll vote yes for Alan's effort.

Hey Jay. Alan has set up a thread on his forum here:

Group Buys...Anyone Interested? - PMI Audio Group Forums

I'm with you but I'd like to get a mic similar to the ACM-1200. Apparently the guys over at PSW are doing a nice mod to this mic.

Hey, Alan. I'm still having problems with the verification image on your site. Any info on creating an account without it?

Thanks in advance!

Good luck mate - no ones heard from Chance around here for months as far as I know.
Best bet is to try e-mailing him or contact him on some other forum.
If you check back thru this thread a few pages there was a discussion on it.

Chance has been in contact with me and another guy at PSW.

The user console still works - you just need to "add an exception" to the elapsed SSL certificate (in firefox, other terminology for other browsers probably).

you have to post on recforums.prosoundweb.com in "whatever works". That's the only forum Chance uses anymore.

I heard from Alan earlier today.................the registration issues are a "web server" problem and are being looked into.

Hey guys,

I am sorry for the tech issue on our forum. They are trying to resolve that, but I have no idea how long it will take.

I am happy to hang here on Gearslutz for now, or maybe someone should start a new thread so this one does not get so hijacked. I am leaving for China on Wednesday. I am seeing some compressor clones and mics while I am there and will take photo's. If I find something worth looking at, I will have it sent, or bring it back. I am sure any of these can be had at a good price, but just know, if my techs do not stamp their approval on it, I will not not buy them. Depending on how much work we would have to do to get it to work right will have some bearing on costs. Maybe we will luck out and find something off the shelf that works.

If I put my reputation on the line and offer a warranty, then you all will know it will not have problems. Some of you may not like the products performance, but it will not have problems.

What might be a good idea is for you all to designate a beta tester close to my office in Gardena, California. Someone who you might trust and take their word on a product report. This way, none of you have to go into this totally blind. You can have an opinion before any of you buy in. Doing this would make you all feel better, and I know it will make me feel better.

I leave the details to you to pick someone if you want. I am back on the 4th of June but will have access to my e-mails.

couldnt ask for anything more alan. this goes way above beyond what i would expect from a group buy . count me in.things that work out of the box is all anyone could want. if the sound it makes doesnt always work for a situation should be expected. paying a little more for this kind of insurance is well worth it.

Unfortunately I know nothing of the product that you want them for..... but as a general guide;

The VTB9045 is a mic input transformer.

The VTB9046 is a line input transformer.

The VTB1148 is a line output transformer which has a narrow enough connector panel for it to fit in most 1U rack cases.

I finally tested my groupbuy this weekend. (3 mics, 4 pre's). Everything works great (81 eq's have the same problem but pre's work great, my 84's are pretty quiet) Unfortunately my ACM 1200 power supply is DOA. Anyone else have this problem? Wondering if there is a simple quick solution. Wont have time to debug for a while.

Regards,
Electric

Bumping for news... anyone got any?

I have a ribbon mic that I'll keep, but I also have a 73 that I need to mod, sell or use as-is.

My tech has supposedly fixed the problems with my '81s.

There are some transistors that were manufactured backwards,
and it appears that if certain transistors go out of spec by a certain amount
the hum goes crazy. I don't have mine back yet, but I'll let you know here.

My guy is really good - hoping for the best.

Thanks Alkooloid, very much looking forward to hearing about any possible fixes and I think it's very much in the interest of our community to keep this focussed and ongoing. I was looking through some threads today and thinking that much as I'd love some warranty recourse on my buzzy 73s, it doesn't look like there's anything immediately forthcoming fom Chance for whatever reason and there's nothing to be gained by sitting and winding myself up about it.

Basically the status is this:

- Nothing has happened in months from TNC (Chance and Terry). They only frequent the PSW forum and posts regarding the warranty, fixes, shipping, etc. are brushed aside or otherwise ignored. Although I can't confirm, many people report that they aren't getting responses from Chance via e-mail.

- Steve Hogan WAS on the prodigy forum and coming to the finale of comprehensive fixes for all the preamps to which he would service or supply DIY kits. However, he has been MIA for nearly three months.

It is pointless to post anything here because TNC doesn't visit this forum. They ONLY visit the PSW forum (thread: Whatever Works/ HERE WE GO AGAIN). But, like I said, posts regarding warranty, fixes, shipping problems, haven't been getting answered for months. The only other forum to pay attention to is the prodigy forum (thread: The Lab/ [ACMP investiupgradifications] All things PREAMP) because people are trying to solve them, but until Steve Hogan shows up again you are still on your own. If Steve does actually finalize things you'll have to pay for the fix (apx $350 estimated per 81 for parts & service and something around $150-200 for parts only).

Hey Chris,

I appreciate how you are able to keep up with all of the different TNC threads. If/when you hear about any fixes actually happening, would you mind posting here so we don't miss it?
