I'm not sure that it IS NOT external. I don't recall hearing either way. Did you see something recent?

You can see all the mic's and pre's at Chance's site also. There are some spec's on the pre's here.

Click on microphones to see them, and preamps to see them, then get in on the fun.

A PSU with toroidal transformer would only be about the size of a wallet and could easily fit in the rack case. The Neve's need +24v at around 200ma to operate. So it's not some big engineering feet to include the PSU in the case.

The only reason to have an external supply would be to isolate any potential stray interference from the toroidal transformer (already pretty low) and because one dedicated PSU box is a cheaper way to power multiple units.

Does anyone know what the deal on the ACM 1 and ACM 4 is? It has 0 for price which I took as meaning not available but noticed on the summary that both have been ordered. I would like to order an ACM 4 but am pretty sure they are not free:-) Any help is appreciated

I suspect they are waiting for the price to be determined (I noticed the same thing, and am expecting they are not free...)

Hi Jay,
After quite a bit of reading it looks like they are trying to get enough to include them in the buy, but they were not included originally. The PSW thread is LONG, I've read so much my lips are tired:-) but theres a lot of good info in between the jibber jabber. I feel really lucky to have stumbled into this. A huge upgrade for me at a great price!! I'm new here and there's a lot of great info I'm sifting thru. Well I'm gonna go and let my lips get some rest so I can read more!! LOLOL

Well if you don't follow the original Neve layout then you might be able to achieve a higher packing density. From what Chance has written on other forums, he had his tech do the design work. So it hasn't been stated to my knowledge that it's layed out identically to a Neve. As a point of comparison...compare the layout of a vintage 1176 to an Mnats DIY version: not much space vs. tons of space.

The prototypes were given/loand to me for one day to check out/inspect, and give final approval during the NAMM show in January. Several engineers from the LA area put them thru their paces and all were excited and were the very first to make orders. It wasn't until I returned them to the manufacturer (@NAMM show) that I thought of what I should of, would of, or could of done. One of those was some A/B samples. We were all caught up in the moment with how good they sounded, and totally forgot to do this.

Yeah, this system is/was built on the fly with very little beta testing and little to no error trapping code written into it... (had to get it up and running fast!)

I've been "stomping bugs" as they come up... This particular problem had to do with error trapping code...that I hadn't put in yet... It's there and we shouldn't see this same problem again.

Maybe by the next group buy, this system will be bug free!

The best thing about this whole group buy thing is that 6 months from now we'll be surprised that the preamps are here and it will be like Xmas morning (hopefully the pre does not equal a lump of coal)

My first group buy...I'm pretty stoked

Folks, pay attention also to the 81 and 84.
Group Buy Interest? - Page 103 - Home Recording dot com BBS
half way down the page.
81 could be a dream eq besides being a good pre
All these units have line inputs also

Cheers

IMPORTANT GROUP BUY UPDATE!

Hi All:
I just spoke with Chance via telephone and he has decided that the cut-off date for the Group Buy is: April 13, 2008 - 12am EDT.

I have created a "countdown" clock on Registration page, the main page of the User Console and the "View Quantity By Product" page.

Again, a cut-off date for the group buy has been set: April 13, 2008 - 12am EDT.

Mark your calendars! Remind your friends!

Jules, thanks for letting this thread live here. I understand the risks, and am in on this... didn't know it was going on at all until I saw this thread on GS... yes, I've been living in a cave (I guess).

Question Is the Power Supply switchable?

I'm just wondering.
I'm in Australia.
I have deliberately picked some mics that don't need a PSU so I know they will be fine.
But I would like a pre-amp too.
Is the Power Supply switchable on the pre-amps?
And also with the tube mics - are they switchable too?
I'm no tech - I wonder how hard it will be to convert it to OZ power - 240V ?????

Preamps are switchable and I´m pretty sure the mics are too,
I have similiar mics ( not from GB ) and think the power supplies

I can't seem to register. I am getting an ASP error and no email, then if I try again it says my email is already registered and to use a different one.

*edit: sorted.

i think the whole external power supply issue is all about being cheaper because its a hassle to develope a power supply that is ul listed- certified or something like that. the way it was explained to me that its easier to go with a power supply that has been certified already .
