Here's theory #6669...

Both were working on the same prototype without realizing it. (which was made possible because they shared the same goal of a neve design at a certain price point)
Chance and his tech sent specs, received a prototype and made various suggestions and refinements along the way.
PMI worked on a prototype simultaneously, offering their suggestions.

797 took advantage of any expertise offered by both parties, and arrived at the currently existing product.

One obvious problem with this theory, is PMI guy's allegation that Johnny MA never exchanged any kind of circuit or prototype with Chance at any time.
The solution to this discrepancy, could be that mr. 797 simply didn't wish for Alan to know.

So there you have it.

But...but... Alan asserted strongly that John Ma was a 10 year friend and NEVER lies to him.

Also, here's something scary. Did anyone notice that John Ma's first name is John, and that if you reverse the letters of his last name, they spell out the last half of Oram?

You got me there; I don't. They're all honest to a fault, right?

Oh, I meant to tell you something. Coincidentally, I actually happen to have a Chinese speaking fly. Unfortunately, he's no good at directions, and gets airsick. sigh

Thanks.

All of this has led to one last question. Do horny Japanese adolescent boys try to get their hands on "Chinese Fly?"

Uh..that's not why I got mine, though.

This is absolutely true:

in a Chinese business directory, the translation for the description of one of the microphone companies (I'm pretty sure it was 797) was:

"Shanghai Flies Happy Microphone Company!"

Thanks Madhatter, Dr. Bill and ThinMan

MadHatter/Dr.Bill/ThinMan: Thanks for the insights/humor/honesty. Appreciate you for stating the obvious and taking the time to inform the rest of us. Misrepresentations need to be "addressed on the forum, if they're started on the forum". Alan started them.

I re-read the entire posts/threads/links - you're right on.

As for Junior and HiStrung, sorry you're missing the boat on this one. Hey, but I think you'll like the mics/pres coming off the other boat.

Well, you know what they say, "A happy mic is a busy mic" (something like that). And they make fishing tackle too. Probably be the next Mitsubishi.

That's a big part of life here in the Up-Over. We all read them. How do you think Alan Hyatt found 797?

This group buy needs a slogan. How about "Your Glorious Speaking Device for Musical Makes New Noble Self Love". I think I once saw something similar written on a moped in Taipei.

- for awhile, and got paid for it too! I was researching CD/DVD duplication tower controllers and replica/stamper QC testers for one of my customers.

At about the same time, I came across Fuston's Chinese mic article, so I also searched for as much as I could find out about Chinese pro audio.

There's more info on GS than I ever found on my own, though. I found my old docs and have a correction to make - the company was Feilo, and the slogan was:

"Shanghai flies happy electroacoustical equipment limited company"

- that's even better!!!

Just some up to the minute news.
It appears that the ACM-200 more than likely will have an aluminum flight case. I think they are adding this to make ammends for the last minute exclusion of the ACM-300. On another note, the mics will be finished and ready to ship before the pre amps will. They are asking me if they should wait and ship all together, or ship the mics seperately and sooner. I have to check the database to see how many ordered mics only. If there is a lot of "mics only" I might just do that. The pres take longer because they have to make the parts whereas the mics use mostly off the shelf/in stock parts.
On the pres, the metal work, xfrmrs, and pots have been outsourced and are now being manufactured.
My PM box is full. I have been getting messages with questions that should have been asked before your orders were made. I can't change anything now. To those who were asking if there were any extra pre amps ordered the answer is yes but I won't make them available until everyone has their pres. You will then have the advantage of reading the reviews of those who already have them and will be made available on a first come first serve basis

Nope.
The reality is I don't have enough money involved to get to exited about anything other than a super cheap deal on some gear.

Hooray for me!

I am glad to hear there may be more pres for those who want them.
That might be great news!

Could anyone tell me if one of the ribbon mics offered in this group buy is identical to the Apex 205 and if so which one?

Actually, no, not on the Board. One of the tenets of the GB is that we don't incur the wrath of other vendors and importers by publicly comparing GB mics with other branded gear. If someone wants to pm you, that's fine, but otherwise it shouldn't be a subject for public discussion.
